Raine could not be the former Grand Templar's and Euchre's child. Simply because you can not breed Humans with Keidrans. Though they could most certainly have been lovers while she was a Keidran. Or even back when she was still Human. But it is still impossible for Raine to be their child.

But what at the obvious hints at what might be a pregnant Flora?

She's not pregnant, she's just getting fat.

FLORA IS PREGNANT!... Those of ya who think it's not, then why the Heck would Tom put it in there? pretty useless filler methinks.

All of the obvious hints about Flora echo back to the most obvious hint of all -- Euphemural mentioning "permitting a race I have not allowed in many years" in the midst of what Tom has said is/will be the most explicit love scene in TwoKinds. So Flora's pregnancy or lack thereof actually has no bearing on the matter at hand -- Raine would have been born long before the prohibition was lifted.

Hmm…I think that Euchre was actually born as a human and could have fallen in love with Raine's mother then, like what Schrodinger believes, had a child. Sometime, however, between Trace's rise to power and the time Flora attempts to see the Grand Templar for the first time, Trace placed a curse on him that turned Euchre into a Keidran, like he did with Raine's mother. As for why he placed the curse on Euchre, I think it is probably because of his lack of hate for the Keidran which explains why he befriended Flora so easily. The shame of a human being turned into a Keidran was probably too great to bear so that Raine was never really told about her father by her mother. Regardless of the former Grand Templar's dislike for Keidran it would seem that Euchre's relationship with her is so strong that he still has connections with the Templar, and that has the Master Spy working for him as a double-agent. Anyhow, that’s my theory.

The only part I can't ponder is his connection with the final tower is?

The timing doesn't seem right for that, though. I mean, Euchre was part of Trace's inner circle, and was part of the planning for what to do after dealing with their own King. Both of those events would have to be contemporaneous with Euchre's first appearance in the comic: As a Keidran, pulling Flora out of the way of Trace's procession, with Trace as the new Grand Templar. We're talking about some really tight timing for Trace to take Euchre from "one of his most trusted advisors" to "a reviled and cursed outcast." Weeks at the most.

Maybe he has worked there as a double agent to build a solid backstory for his new role (on Old Trace behalf).

Wait a moment! I tracked down the comic you were refering to and something clicked in my mind. While I don't know all the details I am pretty sure that this story is only going to get more epic from here. I have to thank everyone who brought their opinions to the table. I won't post my hypothesis on the board since it might be a major spoiler, but you can PM me if you can't wait.

The stage is set, the actors have assembled, and all that remains is for everyone to play out their parts.

Because Euchre is probably Master Strategist, he could have a child with Misses Former Grand Templar (FGT), if they actually were lovers. Theoreticly could FGT got Raine in their Keidran-form (Trace and Flora have a child too), but it wouldn't fit the timeline. Raine's Keidran smell could also originate from a meeting with either keidraniced FGT or Euchre. Leaves only the question, why Trace should make the lover of one of his enemies one of his Master Templar? Only to keidranice him for disobeying? Or because he was a big meanie (cue evil laughter)...

I am afraid that Euchre could not have been Master Strategist before Trace became Grand Templar. Because I'm pretty sure that Trace killed all of the old Master Templars and replaced them with his own hand picked ones when he rose to power. I cant remember when I read that, but I am certain that I did.
Though it is possible that they were lovers long before that, and managed to keep it a secret from Trace. And therefore, I guess Raine really coud be their child. Atleast from what evidence we have so far.

From what I have gethered from mine and EB from G's conversation, my theory on the matter is as follows:
Trace found out that Euchre and the former Grand Templar had been lovers. I beleive that would be enough of a reason for our dear Grand Templar to find it fitting to punish Euchre. In the exact same way he dealt with the former Grand Templar. Seems fitting, don't you think?
And once he had done that, he sold Euchre as a slave. What did he care if Euchre tried to tell anyone anything? After all, what Human would beleive a word that a Keidran slave said if he tried to tell such an absolutely ridiculus story?

That was part of Nora's flashback sequence.

My only complaint is that Euchre as the Master Strategist isn't just some guy off the street. Trace hand-picked these men because he trusted them. It would have been very difficult for Euchre to have kept a relationship with the previous Grand Templar a secret from Trace in the first place. And why would he then react to curse Euchre just for that -- wouldn't his current position and oath of fealty to Trace be enough? If Trace is indeed responsible for Euchre's current state, and it was indeed as a punishment, it would be for something Euchre did, not mere circumstance. If Euchre and the previous Grand Templar were lovers, then I can believe giving him a similar curse for a form of irony, but that cannot be the sole reason behind it -- Euchre would have needed to cross Trace in some way to give Trace cause to cast out one of his most trusted advisers.

How's this then:
Let's say that Euchre and the former Grand Templar were able to keep their relationship secret. And that he was helping her in some way after she had been cursed. Let's say he supplied her with food, or gave her shelter, or something similar. Wich he probably would if he was able to, saying that they were lovers. Maybe they even continued being lovers. And, Trace found out.

How is that as an reason for you?

But if it's true that Euchre betrayed Trace, why help him now? What is his real objective?
