THE SETTING
The year is 2763, and humanity has taken to the stars.
The first manned mission to Mars took place in 2057, placing the first ten humans on the red planet. Forty years later, the first human extra planetary colony emerged on the airless surface of the moon. Soon, other planets began to follow, sparking a migration unlike any other in human history. People left the planet to escape poverty, ignorance, hate, any number of injustices, all that mattered was that they left.
But it was never enough.
Earth has been all but abandoned, the planet being slowly choked to death under the ever encroaching urban sprawl, and the solar system is the home of a thousand burgeoning colonies, each dotting the surfaces of every world in the Sol like so many bits of sand. Corporations, fat off the power they have gained from the resources on the virgin worlds of the Sol, have crept into every facet of society. The distinction between nation and corporation is beginning to blur in the Sol.
Ever resolute, humanity has begun to adapt to life in space and to the surfaces of harsh and alien worlds. Gene manipulation, and bionic enhancements have begun to enhance humanity, make it stronger, make it better. Men who live in space have been engineered with jet black skin and enhanced epidermal layers, better to withstand the harsh radiation of the sun. Humanity has engineered those who live on earth with powerful lungs, capable of breathing the toxin ridden sky. And others have willingly changed themselves for other reasons, for religious, for personal, whatever the reason, they’ve changed. And underneath all this, the question remains, what is human anymore?
This is a world in flux. This is a world on the cusp of discovery, and disaster.
And amid all this, humanity still pushes forward, out into the stars, out into the unknown.
THE SHIP
You are the crew of the IPS (Interplanetary Parliament Starship) Intrepid, a fairly routine science vessel of the Interplanetary Parliament (A government spanning from mercury to mars) its mission for the last ten years has been to study various phenomena in the local solar system. But now the ownership of the Intrepid has changed hands, to the rather ambitious colonization facilitation company known as AeonCorp.
AeonCorp has decided to retool the ship into a deep space explorer, both interested an enthralled with the Idea of exploring the unknown outside the solar system “Proxima Centauri” And one way or another, you are the ones chosen for the ride. Your mission: To explore the nearest system to the Sol and archive your scientific findings. Why are you doing it? Is it the money? The adventure? Or is it something else?
Whatever the reason, it is going to be a long time in the stasis pod. Buckle up.
To facilitate the journey, the ship has been fitted with an experimental warp drive. It has been tested, but it it the first of it’s kind. Scientists are wary of it, but the reward outweighs the risk. Still, it is going to take a year to get to Proxima Centauri. At least the drive eliminates any relativistic effects.
Communication back to earth is handles through a powerful FTL communication device (The developers call it the Oracle). Still, the communication is not instant. It will take five days to relay any communication back to earth from Proxima Centauri.
It is also about 200 meters long and holds 30 crewmembers. Only ten of which are supposed to be active at any time (Read, out of stasis) It has enough food for at least 5 years. The VI on board is names Sybil, and has been given a female voice.
The only weapons on board are owned by the Captain and the Second in command
the Intreped supports artificial gravity in the common room, cabins, and engine of the ship. Everything else is weightless. Crew members are required to spend ample time in the weighted areas to avoid bone and muscle atrophy
IMPORTANT WORLD INFORMATION:
The Ships in this future are limited to sub light speeds. It used to take about 130 days to get to Mars from earth, but with the advent of the cheap power of fusion, the trip has been shortened to about thirty days, give or take ten depending on the position of the planet.
Warp drives are being researched, but the progress has been limited. The most famous test was the THV (Trans-human Vessel) Discovery. While technically a success, the discovery achieved faster than light speeds, but was soon lost. Where ever the Discovery went, no one knows. Many physicists are frightened to try again
AI’s are illegal, and clones for the most part are considered only part human.
The Intrepid in a multinational venture, though a Parliamentary sponsored one
Personal weapons are still limited to gunpowder, but they are significantly stronger than the present day weapons. Rail guns are limited to ships.
Fullerine has been invented, and is quite the popular material
---More to come as I think of it---
RULES:
1) No God moding: This is survival horror, act like it
2) Obey the GM’s ruling: This will not work unless the GM can successfully arbitrate. Please don’t make this difficult
3) PVP is allowed, but controlled: All PVP conflicts will be subject to my arbitration, and I will not hesitate to kill a character. Fighting is serious business.
4) Flesh out the world: I can’t think of everything to put into the setting, so make up your own stuff! Drop company names, friends celebrities, the, anything you can think of! Just remember to keep things believable and on the same level as everyone else and we should do fine. This is a collaborative project people!
5) Obey the forum rules: Seriously, do it.
6) Have fun: I don’t want to run this if it’s going to be a bore.
7) If you die you’ll have to make a new character. No clones.
CHARACTER SHEET
Name: (self explanatory)
Age: (again, pretty obvious)
Species/transhuman status: (This is the fun one. Normal humans are Homo sapiens saipan. If you want to have a different species, give the scientific name, a common name, and general description. Remember, all of these are variants of human, only genetically modified. If you are a clone, of heavily body modified person, please note this here)
Appearance: (How do you look?)
Equipment: (What did you bring with you on the Intrepid? You can have enough stuff to fill a small cabin)
Background: (Where do you come from? Be creative, not cliché)
Skills: (Things you can do. Pleas rate skills between 1, or novice, to 6, the best)
Virtues: (Personality or biological advantages go here)
Flaws: (Personality or biological disabilities go here)
Employment: (who do you work for? And why?)
CREW POSITIONS I NEED FILLED:
CAPTAIN
SECOND IN COMMAND
AEONCORP REPRESENTATIVE
MEDICAL DOCTOR

Everyone else should be some form of grease monkey or scientist. Some of the positions above should also have scientific leanings. This is a science expedition after all.
