First... A sergeant who wanted to order his troops some mats to sleep on is denied by direct-mats.com because he's associated with the war in Iraq: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1771033/posts

Second....... Dakota Fanning starring in a movie about a twelve year old girl who is raped... The scene is supposed to be very graphic: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/ ... 7837c.html

First one:What the bleep?

Second one:...Okay, this could get some people's panties in a bunch, but not mine. I mean, Fanning hasn't been a kid since that horse movie.

Well it's the fact that they're allowing something like this that is so outrageous. I mean, it's pretty much child porn. I hear there's even a mutual masturbation scene and both the girl and dude were completely naked.

First one: Everyone is free to do business as he likes, or is it in the USA different from what we have over here? Maybe some people are just not so proud to support war, independent of in which version of the story, how the war started, you believe.

Hey, we live in a world where you can't use a plane when you wear a T-Shirt saying "GW. Bush is a terrorist".

Second: not really something I would want to comment on.

Well it's fine if you don't want to support the war in Iraq, but to treat soldiers that way is just wrong. They're doing their job and it's a hard one and they don't need people making it harder on them.

I think the owner fired him and said his personal opinions don't reflect the company's. Not sure if the sergeant is getting his mats though.

That Daktoa Fanning movie is messed up, but quite honestly I'm more pissed off about the first story. If I go into much detail I'll wind up writing a two page rant, so I'll just say that it annoys the hell out of me. :P

For anyone else out there who's not American, I think he means her butt.

I don't really have anything against the film itself - people have been putting the worst of life in movies since forever. But casting an actual twelve-year-old girl? That right there seems more than a tad off to me.

Today people go out of their way to be controversial. They know that if they put out anything extreme, it will become popular for reasons other then good film making or talent. Not to say this movie is the same, or are doing it for that reason...But today people keep pushing things closer and closer to the edge, and at some point its going to go over the ledge.

Yeah, I read about these on digg. Pretty messed up. I guess one guy being a jerk to some soldiers isnt right, but the dakota fanning just crosses the line. It's sad to see that someone is basically selling their soul to the entertainment industry at such an early age. I don't want to see what will happen to her in another 10 years.

She'll be fine. She could end it all with a couplea words at any time. "This isn't for me, I don't feel good doing this, or whatever".

That may be true, but she seems to be alright with what's going on thus far, and something about that movie in general... *shudders* That just ain't right...

About the 12 year old thing, I'm honestly not surprised. Things like this were going to happen eventually.

I'm actually more pissed off about the guy refusing to sell the mats to the soldiers. I mean I know it's their choice and all but come on. The soldiers didn't start the war, they're trying to bring an end to it.

Well who wouldn't be? What's worse is he wasn't even asking to buy the mats right away and just was checking to see if they delivered to Iraq. The guy could have simply said 'no, we don't.' They got angry calls every thirty seconds, hah.

Y'know something...

When you can't be bothered to ship -mats- to a foreign country... for soldiers who have no real -choice- about whether they want to be there or not because of something so rediculous as a few more pieces of paperwork, that's just being lazy and irresponsible. When you go so far as to turn it into a POLITICAL statement... you deserve to get more than fired. You deserve to get fired... out of a cannon... into a leper colony... with rabid squirrels.

As for the movie about rape...

What do you think? That it doesn't happen if nobody makes a movie about it? The fact of the matter is that people always get up in arms about these kinds of things. Personally... I think I'd rather see a movie portraying it... and think... 'hey, that's really horrible'... than see someone ACTUALLY being raped... and go 'well that's too bad, then.'

Unless it says 'Hey, go out and rape little girls' in it... nobody is going to care why the producers and the actress and the actors made it. Nobody who COUNTS. Critics will say 'what the hell'... and supporters will say 'we wanted to show you the darker side of humanity'... and the regular guy sitting around, who doesn't live for the approval of the media, and who goes to see this movie... is going to think about the problems of the world for about seven seconds before he goes home to his own troubles and pushes it to the back of his memory.

At least it makes someone think at all.

That's more than most are willing to do unless you stick these things in their face.
