My being an artist basically requires that I have a site of my own. So what exactly is this website (not the the forum) and how was it made? Ive only made one website in my life, and it was a pretty pathetic game site on yahoo. If anyone can give me any tips or help on how to build a professional site for my are, much like this one, id be very greatful :3 but I wont make one until ive created a figure head character to advertise my art.

Well, first you need a webhost. I'm a bit out of the loop as to what the good ones are, so you might want to get advice on that from others. Then you'll need to learn HTML, the language that makes up most websites. There are so many places to learn HTML online that it's disturbing. My recommendation would be The W3Schools tutorial. You might also want to learn PHP, which is a server-side scripting language-meaning that it can help you give more dynamic and easy-to-update content. This however, is optional and isn't really required for a simple website. Here's a good place to start with PHP. Of course, I can gladly help you with any of these things should you struggle with them. :)

Oh, and this might ought to be in the Tech board.

Oh, woops...It seemed like this might be the place to post it ^_^

I'm somewhat familiar with HTML, I know some basics, but I usually have to search for the HTML codes, copy, and paste because I don't know them. It all seems very confusing...there are tons of hosting sites, and then you have to make the site on another site, then host it on the hosting site or....I mean I don't really know. Then I need to find ways to get it out there and known.

I don't really know how to make myself known. My DA has 3 thousand views, and others have 14 thousand...but they might have Websites, so...I really need to do that. Im not exactly sure how to build a site on HTML, the one I built on Yahoo was kind of this drag and drop sort of thing, and was really easy, but incredibly unprofessional.

Getting known is the hardest part. If you're just displaying art then I'd stick with DA or SA, since they're easier than building your own site. As for hosting, basically what you have to do is write the HTML in their online editor or on notepad and then save it or upload it to the webhost, respectively. It's not that hard once you get the hang of it. :D

I wouldn't give up my DA if I got a website. I want a site thats dedicated to me, my art and Music videos...or basically anything I create. My DA is ungodly unpopular for some reason, and its kind of depressing. Its probably because people hate uncolored art. And my art isn't the cutest...I've been trying to work on that. I have no idea how to get known. I don't know what these people are doing, but I'm definetly not doing it.

I really got to get that photoshop :3

Maybe so, but the thing is that your site would probably get even less hits than your DA, simple because very few people might know it's there. Still, if you want to continue I can try and find you a good webhost.

I'll work more on this website Idea once I get a solid foundation for my art.

::EDIT:: Im going to have to beat my face into my desk. I randomly clicked on someones FA page...they had 4 like...eh sketches, and had like 6 times more page views then me. I have over 100 fully decked out finished drawings. Driving me crazy >_<

It's all about consistency and luck...
And I don't have both of them!
(I once saw something that looked like a 3 year old's finger painting --which definitely includes random zig-zags everywhere as colouring-- that got about 10 pages of comments and around 30 favs >_<)

Must be that crazy modern art stuff >_> I think I just need to create a likeable character and recycle it like a mofo. (dude I finally got to say mofo, ITS BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME!)

Im designing her right now. Any suggestions? I havent chosen a species yet. I drew her much more comic style, with big cartoony eyes, and a feather in her hair.

A stick-furry.
No one has done that yet, hmm? Everyone'll appreciate the originality of it! Jokes aside, how about a rabbit? They're the ones who invented the fuzziness.

EDIT:

Oh, no, no, it was listed under Anthros section and it was supposed to be a Sonic character or something -_-
*Snap, I just found two stick-furries.

when your dealing with php its much harder, but basicly with html, you can work on tutorials. all you need is a text editor like cse html validator lite: http://www.htmlvalidator.com/lite/

then as for making a html document, its just normal text... even viewable in notepad, but cse html validator lite helps alot... and you can launch it from like my documents... so you basically design your website with relative paths(i.e. ./image/whatever.png instead of http://www.website.com/image/whatever.png (assuming your html file is on www.website.com in the main directory)) either will work, but you can switch hosts with no trouble with relative links instead of hard-coded ones.
and then just upload it once you have it built localy, on your computer. its much easyer this way, as you can simply save your file, and press the refresh button on your web browser, instead of save, upload, then press refresh and wait for it to load... when your page is local, all files are instantaneously loaded(or atleast as close as you can get, depending on computer speed), so yea...

just ask me if you need help...
