Yesterday, I had a great fear. Like much people in my country.
At 8:15 PM the public television shows a flash news about the splitting of Belgium that just happen.
It was a fake.
Most of people believe it because it could really happen.
It was a great fear for me because i'm neither Flemish or Walloon, i'm both, i'm belgian. If this happen, i'm stateless.
This joke went far, one of our minister is in africa and was ready to return. some ambassadors send telegram to their capital,...

But read this article from BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6178671.stm
for who understand french: here's the article from TF1 with video: http://tf1.lci.fr/infos/monde/europe/0,,3368387,00-histoire-belge-qui-dechire-pays-.html
(can"t take the video from rtbf website because their server is still down)

the answer to your subject is - Sometimes.

Lots of media these days is censored or one sided. You cant tell what is always the truth and what is a lie. There are media centers in the world that often only report the truth even if the government doesnt want them to.

Determining who these are and if they are making the right choices is near impossible.

However thanks to the internet in most countries- you can find world news in the US media, and other Medias and compare them. If they are simular but obviously different- then it is probably true. If the reports are EXACTLY alike- chances are they are falsified or a cover up to protect people/military/aliens :P .

There is no way to know for sure- you just have to trust your instincts - or just not care... that works too... And if you think something maybe false- you can always check it on the net... until the government takes control of it-- which they are trying to do ^_^

Yes, of course.
It's after some check that I understood that was a fiction. But it's not really a question of censoring. Here, they invent a story.
Well, the goal was actually valuable. They want to shake people to make them understand that this subject is not a high level political subject far from us. It's like if your girlfriend say "we broke up , i'm go" just to make you react.
But the method they use is on the borderline. they panicked about five million person for a half hour. they cheat on us. but at least, the goal was reached and if they can do that, that proof that our media have a lot of freedom.
