The town was desolate, at first. It seemed as if no one lived there anymore. There had been no more torn up bodies, merely total disappearances.
There were only so many places to run. The police station was more operational than ever. And Dalivan would just happen to walk in, right in their time of crisis.
And now, a few people –himself included- had decided to do something- police or no police. He had joined as a sort of final resignation or humiliation- a message that said, “I might be a total failure, but at least I’ll count for something if I do this.” Not just be noticed- count. Be more than an idol in the minds of men. Be more than an idol in his own mind.
There was something- something like a higher power -and though he scarcely believed in such things, there was no denying it- something called for him to be important. Or at least do something important. After that, people could forget the name of Dalivan Hase, for all he cared- so long as what he did was remembered.
“Alright, here’s my idea. First, Everyone who disappeared, didn’t in their own house. It was always outside. Second, there’ve been no more mutilations- or at least, if there are, we haven’t known about them. Third, Whoever these guys are, it’s the working of quite a bit of either very smart or very well-armed individuals- more than likely both. Remember they downed an FBI team, and before we could tell anyone about it, shut down the phones. To the entire town.”
“Also, wolf sightings have been more frequent. Now, I’m somewhat of a materialist, and I’m not keen to scream werewolf. I’m thinking it’s a crazy group with a bunch of the guys on the loose, apparently trained to hunt humans. But I suppose I could be wrong.”
“Finally, it’s always at night, and it’s more than just monthly. It’s weekly, sometimes daily. So any aspects of a werewolf, in my opinion, are shot down there, with the whole full moon aspect. Granted, disappearances do tend to be on a full moon. But not always.”
He heaved out a long sigh. “Any suggestions? We’ve got a day ahead of us.”
