 Post subject: Keidran Language
PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:16 am
We all know that the Keidran have their own language but does anybody know what Tom based it on and if there are any more words? Here are some words that have been encountered so far:

Cahrmehrs
Ab’liun
Ryuin
Ar’liun
Ch’rall = Grass
Marlch’ren = Tree

Does anybody know what they mean? Or is it just random Gibberish Tom typed in for a language?

Okay... you know... nobody responded to this... but I really find myself interested. I say... there ISN'T an actual language that tom uses... someone ought to take a stab at putting one together...

It is actually quite interesting. A full-on keidran language would add an interesting perspective to the comic.

Though it would take forever to create.

First off-- creating a language is a lot of work-- second off Keidrans are a creation by Tom, third- Tom doesnt have time to do something so pointless, forth even if you did make one (which would probably be about as good as the freakn ewoks) it wouldnt be used by anyone except a few idiots -- kinda like the Klingon language from Star Trek!

Not really...

See... I'm a language specialist. What you do when you create language like this... where a couple words have already been used... is you take those words... and look for any similarities... like vowel patters, numbers of consonants per word... that kind of thing.

Then... you look for accent marks and the like... patterns of accent... and you take into account, in this case, that the species using them is of animal origin... this is how you determine pronunciation.

So... here's what we have... versus what we need.

Have:
Keidrans... they most certainly -are- Tom's creation.

A small group of what... two or three... words in the Keidran's language.

Knowledge of the fact that they are animal in origin.

Need:
Someone who'd work with Tom, who is -obviously- very busy with life as well as the comic, to put together a language.

A reason to make it in the first place... because if you just E-Mailed a copy of it to Tom or something, he'd probably be like. "... right..."

And someone who knows something about language in the first place... not to mention be willing to go through the torturous abuse of being "That guy that went and wrote an entire language for a Web Comic! Hahhaha" and so on.

Truth is... it could be done well... maybe even made into a -very- impressive language. And that'd be interesting to see. Trouble is... it's never going to be... because the three things we need... are never going to come around.

If i understand correctly, you are thinking about something like Tolkiens Quenya?
(Elen síla lúmenn' omentielvo)

Funny idea, but there is really lots to do. Mabie there could be few person, who would participate in this hard work.

Mabie this link could help ;)
Guide how to create a language

This would be a pretty cool idea. Seems like it would be hard though.

that would be cool, although it seems like only people who are really devoted to knowing about it would ever use it. Otherwise it would only be a few people. It would be a great way to confuse people who had no idea about it too.

yes, the usage would be really limited.
For example, i want to learn Tolkien's Quenya, but i'm not improving, because sometimes i don't see any point besides fun.
On the other hand i use englis quenya dictionarry wery often. There is no better way of creating names for elves. (For PnP RPG, for example)
for example:
Turnor Pilintaur
(Master of fire, arrow of forest)
fast and easy.

The same could be with Keidran language. of course there could be only few basic words, used for names/fun/frazes to be used in comic
(like dominic-deegan's comic uses "Ilka tuk tak", as orcish "dirty word" it really shows the atmosphere)
-----------
about language again:
I looked at that guide myself, looked long, and i kind of liked it.

First what shoud be done - sound for ' should be chosen.
because, for example word, Ab’liun, when it's writen - it's ok, but when i wan't to say it loud, then i stop...

Then simple letters could be used no need for new letters.

And then we have the grammar and everything...

Hey I’m a noob and one of my favourite pass times is to gather groups of nerds and attempt to create unnecessary fan clubs, and it just so happens that I know a mad nerd with nothing better to do that might be able to help!

The last time we made a quite convincing cult, but it turned out to be based on illuminati brain washing. (No seriously even the holy symbol was based on the illuminati pyramid thing)

I already explained why it was stupid but their noobness knows not when to stop... no point in doing anything now-- just sit back and wait for them to accept their stupidity...

It may not be a smart idea but it would be a fun one.
