I was listening to some old school hip-hop, when I started thinking about old school anime. I myself like Dragonball. So people, let's talk old school anime!

Just about every anime fan I know got their start with Sailor Moon. Not me. The first anime I ever saw was Dragonball Z, THEN Sailor Moon, then Pokemon. Then I finally saw Princess Mononoke, which launched my love for the art form. I still like Dragonball Z a bit, but I remember watching the very first episodes - which are much better then the newer ones.

Haha, Speed Racer of course. Off the top of my head I can think of:

Mobile Suit Gundam, if you wanna talk way oldskool. This is the greatest giant robot stuff in the WORLD right here. There is nothing better than the original.
Macross
Voltron
AKIRA, the ultimate acid trip
Grave of the Fireflies
Ronin Warriors
Samurai Pizza Cats

Indeed those are all old school, but have any of you seen Outlawstar? I thought it was an awesome original anime with lots of action and an excellent plot!

Galaxy Express 999 (I still have to see the rest of it. :? )

Samurai Pizza Cats - Best. Show. Ever. (When I was 6 anyways. )

One thing I wish I could see is the Starship Troopers (OAV) (or
Uchu no Senshi) based on the original Robert Heinlin Novel. I guess it's supposed to be kick [censored].

(First book to introduce powered armour? They'd better have made an anime out of it. )

I think the first I ever saw was Pokemon and I'm still attached to it. Not the show really but the ideas and games. Then there was Sailor Moon I saw a few times. Gundam always great and Digimon. I saw a movie called "Castle in the Sky" I think last night that was from the 80's. And it was on TCM. That was really odd

What you saw is Laputa: Castle in the Sky - it was released in 1986 by the genius film maker Miyazaki-- aparently TCM is showing Miyazaki films on Thursdays-- I HIGHLY recomend watching ALL of Miyazakis work-- he is a true master or Animation-- every animator that knows anything loves Miyazaki's work--- the lead dirrector of Pixar Animation Studios actually has a theater built into their studio that exclusivly shows Miyazaki films when they feel they need "inspiration"

Disney offered Miyazaki LOADS of money for all of the rights to dub, sub, and re-release his work in the US --- you may notice now you can get about 3/4ths of his work on DVD now from Disney or Buenavista (a part of Disney)

Not old school? But wasn't it made in like 95' or something like that? If not, tell me what year. Nevertheless, have you seen it and did you like it? I don't hear much about Thundercats. Now I know that show is a classic.
