there should be a point called "network configuration" or so in the Knoppix menu. If you have a DHCP-enabled Router it will be just a matter of 2-3 mouse clicks.

like i said, if you have a thing called DHCP-Server (most Broadband-Routers will have this) you just choose auto configuration. If not, you will need the other adresses. BTW: i assume you have a Windows-PC, so how have you set it up?
if you hadn't to assign an IP, Gateway-Adress, DNS etc. then you are set since you will have DHCP enabled in your Router and you can definitively use auto config.

edit: have you actually tried to go online with Knoppix? By default it will try to use DHCP for network configuration on bootup. (if it finds a network card)

you know some admins like to kill people, joking around with their machines?
i wouldn't wonder if your PC has manually been setup. So you need to know which adresses you have to use. Just doubleclick you LAN-Connection and choose the secon tab, there should you find all you need.

*grrs at stupid admins*
I do all my family's network stuff at my house (ack, what will my parents do when I move out >.>), but yeah, I find the best setup is to manually assign IP adresses for all regularly connecting computers, but also make sure DHCP is avaliable for convience for non-permenant type things.
But yeah, best to either ask the admin, or check settings under windows like the other people are saying.
