Personally, I found it a little strange...which one of them is using black mana? The other brother? The dying brother? Trace?

((Also, I was disappointed that Keith didn't get to kill the dying brother...but that's just me.))

And also, I think the little 'scrawled on the side' bit tells of when Saria died... on the Border.

oh... i get it now, the "scrawled on the side" bit gives away the fact that the text comes from Trace's journal, so it's a fairly reasonable assumption that the rest of the narration in the past few comics also consists of excripts from the journal.

or could it be that the journal is actually commenting on what is happening? i mean, from the looks of things, the journal fliped itself open. it looked like it was surrounded by that blue glow that indicates magic. i'm pretty sure this is originating with the book and not from an external source.
