You can download the game here for free: http://www.portalprelude.com/ but you need the original Portal to play it.

The game's story takes place before the activation of Glados. You're just another test subject who is made to go through series of tests involving Portals while the scientists watch your progress from the windows.

The game is incredibly challenging. I heard from Portal Prelude website and forums that even the hardcore gamers are getting stuck in some of the beginning chambers. However, just like the original Portal, if you know what to do, it really shouldn't be that hard. You just need to figure it all out first.

...The only downside I found (a major one too) is the fact that the voice acting is done entirely with text-to-speech converters. The scientists sound more robotic than Glados herself! D: There's also not that much humor to be found in the game, though the creator occasionally tries. Still, I just think it's only because of the fact that the game generally has a dark, sad atmosphere, especially towards the ending.

I got stuck in chamber 3, got fed up with the mod, and proceeded to deinstall it.

"We'll work on an update this week and try to fix the uneven difficulty as good as we can (especially for the first 3 levels)"

They're going to fix the crazy difficulty.

...What are you talking about? It's Portal. There's Glados no matter what.

I think the difficulty doesn't need any fixing, especially the first three chambers. They're basically repeats of the later chambers in the original Portal. I can understand if people were stuck and confused when the game starts requiring you to do things you never did in Portal, but I don't see why people are complaining about the chambers before new puzzles. Also, if you're really, really stuck, Youtube it.

My only peeve with the puzzle itself is that, in the final test chamber, the solution involves exiting the test chambers by shooting a portal through the spaces between the stairs; something I never would do unless I was trying to find the easter eggs within the game.

People who can get past the third chamber won't have too much trouble with the later levels. People who get stuck, however, probably won't do much better in the later chambers. The only reason the creator is fixing the difficulty is to encourage people to keep on playing through the game without quitting, since a lot of people complained about it. People just have to remember that this game isn't Portal; it's the challenging version of it.

The GLaDOS is indeed activated during gameplay. Running for your life ensues.

Oh, right. YOU activate her.

Spoilers, you [censored].

I finally downloaded it. I don't know what you all are complaining about, I made it to test nine before I had to go to sleep. I'm going to attempt nine a bit later. Its hard, but I love that. The only thing I hate is the necessity of having god-like timing for some, even if you know exactly what you have to do. Like test three (that is the one where you get the second portal, right?) it took me about 38 tries to get the jump right, even though I was attempting it the right way.

This is the prelude, even before GLaDOS was hooked up.
Which means... she will be hooked up. >:L

Edit: aw man, I missed it. I was going to say it with mystery. *sigh*

"-_-"-face for both you and spoiler-givers here.

Eh. The last two characters that show up in the ending makes it all... so dramatic. :o

Oh, sorry 'bout that. I didn't consider it much of a spoiler, more like an incentive.

"That could happen!? Awesome! I have to play this through right naow!"

Edit: Besides, I thought it was obvious. Otherwise it wouldn't be a Portal

And in EVERY half life spinoff/game.

There is the one man who creeps in the shadows and watches over you. Who punishes you in the end.
