Recently I was browsing a selection of games at my local GameStop store and I happen to pick up a copy of Halo 2 made to be played on the PC, but there is one problem it’s for Vista only. The operating system of my PC, however, is Windows XP and I don’t plan on purchasing a Vista computer since I heard some bad reviews about it, so my question is…

…How can I cheat the system and be able to install & play Halo 2 on my XP?

Mind you, I know this game has been out for a very long time on the Xbox, but I never bought an Xbox since I am a die-hard PlayStation fan. Also, I started playing the Halo series over a friends house before I went to college, so I never really needed an Xbox, but now all I have left is my PC. Anyway, I was wondering if there are any downloads I can use. So can someone help me?

Unfortunately, if it is Vista only it is likely a 64-bit game and cannot be played on a 32-bit Windows XP Operating System.

It's that the WindowsLive thing, that lets it interact with XBoxLive, and is a requirement for Halo 2 and Shadowrun (and possibly others, I don't know), is Vista-only.

Let's not forget, there are 64-bit versions of XP and 32-bit versions of Vista we much include in our considerations.

Vista really isnt as bad as it is made out to be, sure it isnt the end all be all of Windows OS' - but it certainly isn't the "Evil Bane of computers that nothing works with and doesnt work or let you copy dvds etc etc" like many people (XD especial Mac users) say it is. Really, it is a big step from XP, but it really isnt so different that its horrible or anything. It's still better than WindowsME...

As for how you can make it work, there probably Is a way, but since i personally havent had any reason to, i dont know what it is. I assume you have tried asking the all powerful Google right?

I actually wanted to buy Halo 2 just so that I would only play the campaign levels. (Halo multiplayer was just way too addictive for me when played it over my friends’ house) So I was hoping that I could install the game without WindowsLive, I wonder if there is a way to do that?

One option I could try is to upgrade my OS to Vista (there is a sticker on my computer that says "Vista Upgradeable"), but when I asked a professor at my college about upgrading he told me that it wasn't worth it because my upgraded computer would be heavily bugged.
EDIT:

If you know anyone who can possibly tell me how to make the game compatible with my OS please tell me, I'd appreciate it Sage! Also, I have checked on Google, but I wasn't sure if those sources were reliable, perhaps if I rechecked deeper I might get better results or if I read positive reviews I might buy a Vista.

Use Google. Something like "Halo 2 on windows XP"... I checked, and it can be done, at least for single player mode.
