You need the level 5. As you get closer to the center, the range you can travel decreases dramatically. What was the maximum level now has less than the range of the first level.

Bring lots, and I mean a lot, of health potions. And make sure your allies take the brunt of the damage. It took me a while to finally get there.
I got a level 3 drive, and I got a few allies and got pretty close, and then I reached a dead end and died from the Grox :C
My brother got to it, he just did the dash for your life technique.
