I was rather disappointed when I finally got around to play Halo. I just don't see what's so special about it. Jolly Jack's 'How to play' summarizes it pretty well.

Halo is not a classic. It did nothing new and was only popular because it was trhe only game on Xbox at the time that didn't completly blow. Timesplitters 2 did far more for console gaming imo. Amzingly well balanced gameplay, whacky fun characters and god forbid a multiplayer mode that is sooooo good it makes e feel sorry for other FPS's. TS2 had proper gameplay, no story I admit, but proper eye bleedingly pace awesome gameplay. Halo... just kinda shambled along
I can't see what it is TS2 would have done to attain 'classic' status. A lackluster story isn't exactly a revolution, and fast-paced action is hardly new. Halo had an intelligent story and a more casual pace of action, which are two of the reasons Halo could be considered 'classic.' What TS2 did had been done before, and better, Halo relaxed the FPS genre while keeping it fun, exciting, and with a good story.

Also, Halo 3 is the one in the series that was only popular because it was the only good FPS on its console, not Halo: CE.

What TS2 did, was get deathmatch right. Like Golden eye on the N64 (actually made by the same people) it took arcade deathmatch games to another level. It had a much higher frame rate then any otyher FPS at the time. It was a game that had people playing split screen multiplayer games again a was critically aclamied for it.

The only game since then to get that same feeling of perfect arcade multiplayer for me has been TF2.

If Halo had been released on the PS2, I doubt it would had gotten this "Classic" status.

Innovation isn't necessary to become a classic. It's not just doing something new, it's doing it right. Halo did a lot things I've seen repeated again and again, and attributed to it. Halo is remembered by everyone and loved by many. You're probably the third person I've ever heard, in my life, bring up TimeSplitters in any context. Unfortunately, if nobody plays it, a game, no matter how good, can't be a classic. ;)

So you know Avwolf, A think quite a few people must have played it if I'm not the first to bring it up to you. Not to mention that the game also went platinum on PS2.

Hm, would you look at that. Looks like Halo 4 may be in development.

*points to the date on the Kotaku article* :P

I'd be surprised if Halo 4 wasn't in development, but rumours are that Bungie won't be making it.

Halo and Marathon are officially unrelated. The Chief and the Marathon Man are different incarnations of the same character, but that doesn't mean they're the same.

I liked and hated Marathon at the same time.

Actually, I loved it, I wanted to play it forever.

At the same time, I wanted to take the game, and go kill the creator's slowly and painfully with it.

It was a weird experience.

that is my relation ship with halo 3 sometimes, like right now, i love the game but i hate how i always am on the team with the people who want to cheat to get achievements and we lose cuz they do absolute [censored] OR THE JUST [censored] SUCK COCK, it's so annoying my and my friends think bungie just hates it's loyal fans that have played since halo 1 because everyone we talk to who liked halo 1 and 2 has some problem with something bungie did with halo 3

Your drawing conclusions about Bungie's mindset by what the unpleasable, whiny fanbase has to say (case in point; the Mauler, the melee, the sword, etc. Oh, and the pistol issue, dear God the pistol issue)?

Your logic confuses me.

Also, I enjoyed all three games myself. It is true however that I am beginning to tire of them; I only really play when I get an invite from one of my buddies. I'm still quite engrossed in TF2 and with Fallout 3 approaching fast, I'll probably find even less time fro Halo (or my coursework, for that matter).

Bungie has decided to let the cat out of the bag and confirm that the main character of this new game is an ODST, not the Chief.
