Well we have already located the "kill-me" gene. There's a gene that ages and kills us. What people plan to do with it I haven't the faintest idea.
I don't think we'll ever see a synthetic hybrid creature because the only reasons we could possibly have for creating one can be obtained without actually creating one. Take the Swedish scientists working on crossing human DNA with mice and fox DNA. Mice and foxes are immune to a lot of the viruses humans are vulnerable to, so gaining those invulnerability attributes is theoretically life-saving work. But they don't need to actually create a living, breathing human/fox or human/mice hybrid to get those results, they just have to splice a few genes and mix DNA.
Also, I life seafood much more than steak as well. Grilled salmon with garlic, butter and lemon is greater than anything I've ever eaten
