Need i say it again?

No, but feel free to. Freedom of speech, and all that.

Also, it's nice to have people on my side for a change. I feel kinda powerful. This must be how Sable feels every day...lucky prick...

Sable feels powerful?
Also, yeah, I didn't say anything at first as I felt it would be in poor tastes.

Some people visit a grave each year, some people don't.

Garrett is full of the expletives today, isn't he?
XD

Here's my entire point (after which, I'm going to be nice and quiet):

To draw a picture, 9/11 was just the opening note to the opera that is now the Gulf War - it was part of something that is still going on. Is it appropriate to ignore the show that is still going on around you? It is a tenuous strand, yes, but I think this connection is what is keeping the event so fresh in people's minds...

Aaaaalso...so what if it was 7 years ago? July 4th was only a significant date 232 years ago...yet we still celebrate it. Why should we only take the time to mark "good" events? Why can't we just "get over" those as well?

Just some thoughts...not really looking for responses, just trying to provide a few points to think upon...

Apparently, yes.

As for July 4, I'm surprised and rather frightened that you would ask that question. Which would you remember, a happy fun day with lots of family time and explosions, or a sad day full of death and explosions? Which emotions would you rather feel for a day? Which is HEALTHIER? :)

I say let the people who choose to reflect on the disaster do so. If you feel like time's up and we should move on, then do so on your own while respecting the decisions of others. Everybody mourns in different ways and for different lengths of time. Don't take it upon yourself to badger them into stopping because you don't want to any more.

Personal decision isn't the issue. Much of the discussion is based around the televisions responses to the date. Just as it has for the last 7 years. If a person wants to mourn, more power to them, but there's no reason for the nation itself to continue to mourn as well. Saying "We're very sorry for the tragedy" each time the date passes doesn't help anybody.

I'll go with Fast here - if you feel the need to observe such occasions, create & post in such a thread - but if you don't, don't.
*Carefully backs away from topic*

The people can mourn but the nation can't? Twilight Zone much?

I figure if you don't want to spend the day reflecting on 9/11's anniversary, you're welcome not to. Go outside, read a book, watch Comedy Central. It's really not a huge effort to turn off the news, History or Discovery channel for one day.

If I just didn't want to see it, I would. My point is I think the nation as a whole, the view of people, the reaction of our leaders, and such should change. If someone wants to personally mourn, they're within every right, but there are more things important to our nation than 9/11.

Also, if the government stops talking about, our politicals can finally stop using it to [censored] their agendas forward.
God I hate politics.

He who forgets, is doomed to repeat.

Remember the Alamo what?

Seriously, this is one of the most significant events of our modern history, and we as a nation should remember, and learn from it.

To brush it off, or misuse it, is a violation of our humanity.

And our Alamo news day is when?
The Native American genocide day?

Let's not have double standards here. You can remember and learn from a mistake without mourning over and over and over again.

All I'm going to say is that everybody has the right to express their remorse. Forcing them to stop would be akin to closing the lid on a pressure cooker. Mourning is a healing process, and for many, seven years is a very short time in contrast to the immensity of what happened to us.

Everything else I want to say would be incredibly volatile, so I'm going to stop here.
