Sucks when that happens, cause if you're trying to post something powerful, all the power gets zapped from it.

It's been 7 years, guys, it's time to move on. The time for mourning has passed.

That's easy for you to say. You don't have to come home to an empty apartment because the love of your life didn't come home from work. You have to know your father only through the surviving pictures on the mantle. It's so easy to dismiss what happened when you aren't personally affected by it.

Have some tact and some empathy, for pity's sake. It comes across as very insensitive when someone who was not touched by tragedy says "OMG GET OVER IT" to someone who has.

I don't think he meant it like that.

*sigh* I was afraid someone would react this way. Forgive me, as I'm not very good with words. I understand how they feel, and don't say I don't, or I will have to give you a multiple paragraph response on how I know, even having not experienced what they experienced, and even then you wouldn't believe me. Just know that I understand, and I'm not saying they should just get over the death of whoever they lost on that day. I'm not saying that they should forget all about 9/11. I'm not saying ANYONE should just get over 9/11. I'm saying that we as a nation need to move past it. Rebuild, ya know?

We can rebuild and still remember and mourn it. They are not mutually exclusive. I agree with Kinuki.

That it would appear that I am alone once again. I don't believe there is anything else I can say to argue my point without getting flat-out offensive, and you guys just don't deserve that. Besides, it doesn't really matter to me, I don't even know why I said anything.

Just know that in the future, there will be an episode of Family Guy making fun of all of this (if there already isn't), and I'd rather be able to laugh at it than have to cry.

I agree on this. 7 years is a long time. Even if someone I cared for died in the incident, I would get over it. It's not healthy to dwell on the past no matter how sad and devastating it was. We should remember that it happened, then simply move on.

It's tough to get completely over something when you're still suffering from the repercussions...

Gulf War, anyone?

I agree with Garrett. 7 years, you may still feel sad when you think about it, but it's not a dominating factor in your life. It was a tragic moment in our history, but it's time to move past this event. It's time to move on.

Well, the thread has moved from "tribute thread" to "discussion of the appropriateness of a tribute thread"...it's true that the original topic's expiration date has indeed passed, but the new topic can easily carry on...

Perhaps in a different thread, though...
XD

It's also 7 years past the original incident. Image
