Oh, jeez. It was a taekwondo guy who kicked him in the face?
That changes things. Ouch times eight.

Unrelated: FF's spellcheck corrections for "taekwondo" are stupid. >_>

I'd think that ref would be lucky not to have a broken neck, the way the photo captures it. Christ on a stick, that's harsh.

I feel sorry for the coach, taking the same punishment for the athlete's idiocy.

I'm so stealing that :0

And wow, the guy should know better than to start kicking innocent people while standing in the spotlight.

I say that all the time. Also, they already did that. It's just not original anymore. Now, something like "Holy sweet Jesus' nipples!" or "Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick!" I can see...

Actually, I like those. both are now officially MINE!

I'll give you a better one to steal, then.

That guy was built like a brick sh*thouse.

This would be better than the Zidane incident, if the referee actually fell down.

Actually, he had a legitimate gripe...

The judges were ALL italian, they did a VERY suspicious judging in favour of an Italian athlete, and according to the international wresting rules, there was no way of complaining about the judgement.

The Swede won't get his bronze back, but he's not too concerned as he DID manage to get CAS to look into the case...

http://www.tas-cas.org/en/infogenerales ... 92-15-1-1/

Quote:
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirms that the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) is required to provide a procedure for an appeal jury

Ranking of the Mens Greco-Roman 84kg remains unchanged

Beijing, 23 August 2008 – On 20 August 2008, a dispute related to the judging of the semi-final in the Men’s Greco-Roman 84kg between Andrea Minguzzi (Italy) and Ara Abrahamian (Sweden) was referred by the NOC of Sweden and Abrahamian to the CAS ad hoc Division.

Personally, I'd say that was a bigger victory...

So let me get this straight - he sits down for over a minute because he's supposedly hurt badly enough to not be able to continue the match, then *kicks the ref in the face* when he's disqualified for taking too much time out.

Seems to me he wasn't needing all that time if he was well enough to still smash face with foot. He deserved that disqualification.

The coach was banned too, but I think it was because he refused to apologize for his athlete and criticizing the judges.

Seems this year's Olympics went tits up this time around, what with the bannings and athletes having temper tantrums.
