Dan was lying on a California beach, thoroughly enjoying his vacation. The first few days had been even better, because those were before Salen had determined his location... and followed him, all the way to California. He sighed, thinking how long can it take for a restraining order to go through the courts? After it was finalized, Dan would never have to deal with that annoying fan ever again. And after all, that's all that Salen is: a fan. And what do all fans have in common? The instant you lose, they're gone. Shaking his head, Dan made himself stop thinking that way. He was normally so happy, but damn it Salen was annoying.
He didn't have much more time to relax, for it wasn't long before a man in a suit and sunglasses walked up to Dan. "Dan Foren?" He asked. "You got him" Dan replied, wondering what the suit-clad guy was there for. His question was soon answered as the man threw a package on him, a brown parcel the size and shape of a video tape. Attached to it was a piece of paper. "What's this f-" Dan stopped talking when he realized the suit-wearer had already left. Unfolding the paper, Dan began to read it. He learned that he was invited to a tournament, watch the video for more info, yadda yadda, and he froze at the part that mentioned spectators and friends of the participants being able to come. Oh no... oh [censored] no... I have to leave now, before "Hey Mr. Foren, what's that?" said a sweet and peppy sounding voice which made Dan groan in agony. He tried to hide the paper, but it was too late, Salen had seen the paper, and her eyes grew wide as she read it. "No, you may not come with me" Dan said, "look, it says spectators and friends of the participants. We both know that you'll be bugging me and probably everyone else there, so that rules out you just being a spectator. And you're no friend of mine, so that rules out the second option."
Dan stopped talking when he looked and saw that Salen was looking at the ground in a depressed way, tears beginning to appear in her eyes. Sighing, Dan knew he was going to regret what he was about to do. "Look... if you want to.... go with me that much, then I suppose you can go with me."
"Great!" Salen said, amazingly upbeat after how she'd been only seconds before. In only a few hours they were on a plane, heading off to the island. All of this sounded suspiciously like a tournament that Dan's neighbor, Drisk, said he'd been in a few years ago.
((he knows Drisk, what a twist!))
