No, no we're actually not.

I'm so sick of redneck jokes about Alabama and the southeast in general. They're old, tired, and idiotic at this point.

For one, Alabama and the southeast actually has some of the best economic conditions in a America right now. A home that would cost over half a million in some parts of the country like New York City or California would only cost 100-200 thousand dollars around here, because our housing rates didn't balloon like theirs, which means we're not so much feeling this whole "can't sell my house crisis." We have jobs around here, especially in Huntsville with the BRAC.

Also, people seem to think everyone in Alabama is stupid. Guess what? We're not. We have the country's major technological centers right here in Alabama. Huntsville? Basically every piece of hardware we've sent into space was built there. By rednecks apparently. Mobile? We're building the newest Navy ships there. Atlanta, GA has some of the foremost medical centers in the country.

Yet people still want to call us rednecks. Why? I don't know. But we're not all stupid, and we don't all marry our cousins. So the next time you feel like making a redneck joke, would you kindly go [censored] off. Thank you.

I feel better now. :D

For some people it's all about boosting their ego with their heritage, "At least we're better than those [insert random state here]". And let's not forget those locals who keep it up themselves because they think it makes them look cool (been there, seen it, way too many times).

Sadly, some habits die hard. Some people still think Nokia comes from Japan. I mean, come on!

I don't think I've ever made redneck joke.
So I'm safe.
Plus, I only think rednecks are rednecks if they ARE rednecks.

Yeah I only make fun of the people who I KNOW are what I'm making fun of, mostly up here in Northern Wisconsin. If I see a Hick, and I KNOW they're a Hick (you know, typical flannel shirt, rusty truck, Blaring very loud country music, smoking alot, mullet) then, I've seen it and that Person, in my book, is a Hick ^^

That reminds me of a friend's first trip to Texas. He was helping a transplanted Texan (cowboy, no less) who was very proud of his Texan roots move to Alabama. He'd been hearing the glories of Texas the whole trip there.

and the very first Texan he meets on Texas soil lisped, sashayed and flirted with mr. Cowboy Texan.

of course he never let him live it down.

eh, someone is doing "redneck weddings" as a reality show. Most of the ones featured were northwestish country wise. I think ONE of the four were from the SouthEast.

and does Maryland still allow first cousin marriages (it's been years, but that's the lst I heard).

I always figured just about everybody allowed it, though I recall the Catholic church refusing to perform the marriage unless a bishop or somebody okayed it first.

It is. :D

I figured there weren't as many people here that made redneck jokes(and weren't from the south themselves). I just wanted to rant a bit. :o

I have a friend who lived in northern CA, is of Spanish decent, and thinks he's family is redneck.
And likes those, if you do x, you're probably a redneck.
It's horrible.
