Vampires survive on the blodd and death of normal people.
Is this Evil?
My opinion, yes this is unquestionably evil.

My opinion: No, it is not evil. If it is a necessety for them to do so to survive, then it is not evil.

I must refine my definition.
I meant that vampires that actually feed on victims and kill them, rather than those that instead raid blood banks.

I see. Killing innocent people when it is not necessary is evil, yes. In my opinion.

My opinion, depends on the vampire, and whether they kill and/or turn their 'victims'. If they do not kill, then they are not so evil. If they do not turn with a simple bite, then they are even less evil. If they cannot feed properly without killing but hunt animals instead of humans, and can turn with a bite whether they want to or not and so avoid biting people for that reason alone...I just described the Cullens in the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer^^...those are some mightilly good vampires, there. I guess what I'm saying it, whether a vampire is evil or not depends on the vampire, just like with humans, and everything else blessed (or cursed, depending on your views) with sentience.

Personaly I belive the world is not black and white. There are gray areas. This is one of them. No I do not think killing people for food is evil. Anyone ever had a hamburger. We're all hypocrites!

I believe it's a gray area. They have the choice to do as they see fit, be it an act of good or evil. Then again, I can't frankly say I believe in such a thing as good or evil. Where as one action is good in the eyes of some or many, it can be turned right around in the eyes of others and is thought to be evil at the same time. Therefore, good and evil is entirely plotted upon opinion based on your moral foundations.

Vampires, just like anything, should be considered neutral, as everything that comes to pass can be considered both good and evil in anyone's eyes. Even if it's the slaying of humans for their own survival. Would it not be deemed evil if we humans continue to slay and harvest animals who have no chance at experiencing their own lives? Or is it because of this that the good people are born and solve the world's problems and improve the world for us just in that sacrifice of another life.

It's once again, gray area. Neutrality.

It is evil if you could get your food otherwise. In this case, blood banks.

Also, I think debating over vampires is silly.

Especially sense the entire question depends on the mythos you are discussing, as in each one it would be different.

No evil there, but I've always supported werewolves over vamps, so I'd kill them all the same.

This has got to be one of the worst threads this board has ever seen. Are fictional monsters based off of a man who impaled his victims and then dipped his bread in their blood evil? Come on.

No creature is evil technically "evil" does not exist it is just a figurative word for those that you hate or completely opposed to you no sane person would call themselves evil not saying an insane person wouldn't though, good and evil are defined by a persons own point of view.

EDIT:

I'd have to agree with Keldoth. It all depends on YOUR definition of a vampire, and there are a bajillion of them. I, personally, base my definition off of Buffy, so no, I don't think they're necessarily as EVIL as other demony creatures might be.
And, yes, that show is where I got the screen name, but not the nickname.

=^.^=

Vampires are undead, and by that nature are the antithesis to life. While the actual act of feeding might be neutral, after all, they need it to survive, they are sill undead. They are the farthest from us as possible, and by their very nature they are disposed to be preadetors and parasites. Wether or not the feeding is for survival, they are still attacking thinking creatures, and will not be able to survive unless they do. There can't be any real reconcilliation between the groups either, only one can have dominance. And the one who has dominance, will define its nature.

That said, as a living, non-undead human, I think it's pretty evil.

Why, Spiffy! Really! I allways thought you were a man of science! To be afraid of or hate a race simply because you don't understand it is not acceptable! That was what we did back in the dark age!
