Here we go again. Another book thread.

I've recently finished a two part section of the New Jedi Order: Enemy Lines. Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand, are two great books by Aaron Allston.
If you read them, read them both otherwise it lessens the effect of greatness. :)

The main story line of this book follows the months long battle for the Borleais system as the the fleet there tries to buy time. Wedge Antillies is back at his rule bending ways as he tries to keep his people alive and deal the Yuuzhan Vong a defeat they won't soon forget. Jania Solo takes on the role of a the Yuuzhan Vong trickster Goddess in an attempt to confuse their enemies. And Wraith Squadron is back doing what they do best; giving everybody a headache.

My rating 4.8/5

I have to wholeheartedly recommend "Hyperion" by Dan Simmons (and it's follow-on books "Fall of Hyperion", "Endymion", and "The Rise of Endymion". Fabulous SF. Extremely well told and crafted.

Here's a little blurb on Hyperion.

He's in the middle of a new pair of books that are just about the same quality of writing: "Illium", and "Olympos", which hasn't been published yet. <Hurry up, jerks- I want to read Olympos!>

Angel & Demons by Dan Brown was great. It kept my attention the whole time as I read it and I almost enjoyed myself (which says a lot). I think if I had picked it up on my own, I would have enjoyed it much more because I had a time limit (I had to talk about it in class today) but if you like to read and you haven't read this yet, read it!

I like the Redwall series (Mariel of Redwall is my favorite.) and Dragonlance series (The Soulforge and Brothers in Arms are two of my favorites.). I also liked The Amityville Horror, of course, that was based on a true story.

Oh man I think I forget to post about a few books.

All following are New Jedi Order Books.

-Traitor
-Destiny's Way
-Force Heritic 1: Remnant

Just finsihed Remnant this morning and it was a good start to the Force Heritic Trilogy. Han and Leia head out on a mission to reconnect communications between the distant parts of the former New Republic. At the same time Luke and Mara lead a Jedi team on the search for Zonama Sekot, a living planet which may hold the key to winning the war.

With the war at a relative deadlock the Yuuzhan Vong take the oppoptunity to try and wipe out the Remnants of the Empire before they become a threat. Luke's team arrives just in time to save Pelleon's life but not in time to save the Imperial Capital of Bastion.

Any thing by ether J.R.R Tolkien or R.A Salvatore, if you like D&D, Tolkien or just a dam good fantasy story R.A Salvatore is for you, I recomend by starting to read the Dark Elf trilogy, then just moveing up the list, I have read all of his books that happen in the forgoten realms about 3-7 times each, I think he is only second to Tolkien in those kind a writeings. So if you see his name on something, i recomend whit it.

David Weber is my god. Read the Honor Harrington series or suffer the wrath of god. Believe me, best written books I've ever read(and I read alot)

The_Icelander: Totally agree on J.R.R. As good as the movies are, the books still blow them out of the water. Scour that Shire!

Anything by Michael Crichton is awesome, he’s had a lot of his books turned into movies but they don’t do him justice at all. Jurassic park, The Lost World, The Andromina Strain, Congo, and Timeline are all great books that are far superior to their movie counter parts.

Ooo, I gotta disagree, ScorpionStirker. I think Crichton is one of the most overrated authors out there- he can't write an ending to save his life. I mean, look at how Andromeda Strain ended- "the virus mutates to a harmless form, so everything is ok". Talk about deus ex machina. And I thought that Jurassic Park the movie was a significantly better crafted story than the book (one of the rare movie better than book situations).

I haven't read the Lost World or Timeline, but the rest of Crichton's books were 3 outta 10's for me.

However, if you enjoyed them, great- I just can't agree that he's an awesome author. :?

Well .. I used to like Crichton's origional JP, but thena gain I read it in the second greade, and I was kinda on the whole little kid dinosaur binge, so my opinions of it may be alittle swayed. I read timeline a while ago, it was cute, in a way. THe plot seemed kinda... well... I dont want to call it underdeveloped.. im leaning towards unsubstantial. IT was there, but what really interested me was the concept of time travel that he employed. But in my opinion, there have been alot better uses of said ability to time travel. Like those one books, what were they called .. Tima and Again was one of them I think. It was a purely mental time travel ability, the method was kinda silly to me, but the story was great fun. Involving, some depth to it, everything I wanted from a bit of a read. I kinda want to read Icewind Dale next, it sounds like funs.

I've read Chrichton's Lost World, and it wasn't too interesting. And I love Jurassic Park (the movie, anyway). And I have read Timeline, and thought that it was a bit better. The movie sucked, but the book was worthwhile.
