Now this rant will probably go through a list of subjects so I'll break it up.
As a starting note, I'm a democrat so republicans, prepare to disagree. Accept maybe on the first on.
Why Should American's Hate America?
Now I've never gotten this. I simply cannot comprehend the people out there who, when asked, would willing say they hate this country. If pressed, they'll answer something like the people of stupid or we're so an extremely violent country. I just wonder why they think this makes us deserving of hate.
I can see where other countries are coming from when they hate us. We chew through resources like a rat through a power cord, and we stick our little American nose-guns into their business, but what makes America so deserving of hate from it's people. It's not like you get the shaft when it comes to freedom in comparison to other places. Compare us to 7/10 other places in the world and we have vast freedom compared to there.
Violent Video Games
I was shocked thursday to discover that my mother was one of them.
One of the people that thought somehow games warped our minds to make us psycho killers. I'm so tired of these people.
I'd like to pose a hypothetical to you all.
A man stands over a young woman in the street. Tears and blood are streaming from the young ladies face as she sobs and the man brings his fist across her face again and again. You see her eyes search the crowd for someone to help her as he hits her again and again.
Do you....
A. Think "Lol this is just like GTA" and go along you merry prick [censored] er way.
B. Be shocked
C. Call 911
D. Pull the [censored] hole on beating the girl off of her
Now, I usually don't like to speak for those around me, because I feel it's narrow minded and pretentious, but I'm pretty goddamn sure that none of my gameing friends or the gamers here are, as Jack Thompson and many seem to think, going choose option A.
Why do they seem to think we'll have some greater separation from reality than someone who reads books or watched a movie. Some think that because your actions actually cause what happens in a game. But consider this, using the same logic that can be countered. Books cause violence. Instead of either movies or games, we're the violence is directly delivered to you, books actively prompt your mind to come up with these horrible images yourselves, making an even greater connection to the violence occur. Some would say books have been around for centuries and therefore there wouldn't be a spike. I ask you, what spike?

Violent crime as whole is falling as video games rise.
And look! Because I've gone far too long without being sarcastic and my hands have started shaking, look at this![url]

There you have it. Books cause violence.
But seriously, how can people site this rise in rates of violence that doesn't exist! In the same way I could easily say that puppy rates rise whenever Jack Thompson speaks. It's not even real. But people don't seem to get this. People like him have taken the fear of a new media which occurs every time, ie. movies, rock and roll, and turned it into this even greater terror and dread at it. So no violence raised, no violence becoming more ok with gamers, what the hell are they afraid of that's true?
Alright, I'm all ranted out.
I'll probably produce more garbled ranting later.
