The stink of ash rouses you to your senses, and you open your eyes slowly, blinking away your tiredness and clearing your sight. And what a sight it is: Ruins surround you, long overgrown with flowering vines and in a state of heavy decay. As you stagger to your feet, you realize that the ash-smell had been coming from the area around you, which is scorched black. You try stand up, but a splitting headache almost puts you to your knees again. It takes you a moment to regain your senses and for the headache to subside to a dull throb. Looking around, you notice that you aren't the only one in the ruins; you can see others, some still unconscious, some awake, all wearing plain clothing: tunics and britches, the same as what you're wearing. You don't know who any of the others are, but then, you don't know who you are either; along with that skull-splitting headache came amnesia; complete and total amnesia. Several of you converge on a large, intricately carved pedestal - still in remarkably good condition - that emits a dull warmth into the air. You wonder why you're there, why the others are, and more importantly, who you are. One amongst you places a hand on the pedestal to help them balance and the rest of you are blinded by a bright light as you feel an intense heat coming from the Pedestal. When the light dims enough, you look to where the person had been standing, but you instead see an extraordinarily large canine looking around in confusion.

This is how it begins. Those willing to risk it are gifted with the ability to shift, at will, between their human form and an animal form, which is large enough for a human to ride. Canine, feline, vulpine, etc. are possible; really any land mammal is fair game (at my discretion, of course). I intend the focus of this to be character interaction, so it would probably have a pretty slow pace. Don't think that means you're safe; bad things are still gonna happen to make things more interesting.

-----------------------------

Rules:
1. No one liners. You don't have to write a paragraph to say one sentence, but at least make it more than one line log.
2. No auto-hitting. At all. I hope that's easy enough to understand.
3. Follow the standard RP rules.
4. Have fun. Or else.

-----------------------------

Name: (Name goes here, artard.)
Sex: (Male, female, both, neither... whatever floats your boat.)
Human Appearance: (What you look like, obviously.)
Animal Species : (If applicable.)
Animal Appearance: (Again, if applicable.)
Personality: (Just a general impression.)

Strengths: (What are you good at?)
Faults: (What are your flaws?)

Notes: For all intents and purposes, you have no past. None at all. It is very much advised that the RPers stick together, though not absolutely necessary (hint: you're less likely to die in a group than alone). If you don't want to risk touching the pedestal, you don't have to, and you will probably have one or more chances to do so if you change your mind during the course of the RP. All of you are young and relatively fit humans. All of you, without exception. This will be a very serious RP, so be descriptive in your posts; take your time with them, and immerse yourself. Feel free to fall in and out of love or to form rivalries/hatred. I want you to feel for your compatriots in one way or another. I know this is probably an absurd idea - to have a serious RP focused on character interaction - but I'd like to see if it's at all viable. I may kill randomly (dice rolls, perhaps). If I kill your character, you're dead. Sorry; nothing personal; I may even try to work in a way for a new character to come into the RP, but no promises. I may also kill you if you break the rules (or get on my nerves) one too many times. If this happens, I will tell you so, and you may or may not be barred from rejoining.

-----------------------------

Here's the character I will use; an exception to the rule, as he's been in this place for a few weeks.

Name: Ano Kaie
Sex: Male when human, female when animal.
Human Appearance: 5'5" (1.65 m); 160 Lbs (72.6 kg); slender build; short, light-gray hair with violet tips; dark - almost black - purple eyes; scar on right thigh covered by britches. Clothes are dark-grey.
Animal Species : Arctic Wolf
Animal Appearance: White fur; purple streaks below eyes; dark-purple eyes; scar on right thigh.
Personality: Ano was originally playful and upbeat, and it sometimes shows through, but he's become largely cynical in the few short weeks of his life.

Strengths: Excellent survival instincts and foraging skill. Also, the only one who has even a tiny idea of what's going on.
Faults: Runs with a slight limp; very cynical; sometimes acts more like an animal than a human, and doesn't seem to realize how strange it seems to others.

She doesn't like conflict and will often go out of her way to keep everyone happy, even at her own expense. She doesn't so much think with her head, but goes with what she feels in her heart.

Strengths: Strong sense of right and wrong. Kindness, thinks of other before herself
Faults: Overly trusting

Location: The people in the white lab coats won't tell me.
Name: Ninurta
Sex: Male
Human Appearance: A bit on the short side, he's about 5'2", but he's well built, not quite thin, yet not quite thick. His face is a bit wide, his hair a deep shade of tan.
Animal Species : Bobcat
Animal Appearance: Image Bigger than shown, but you get the gist of it.
Personality: Highly curious. He has a slight tendency to ramble when he's excited about something new. Simply adores logic puzzles. A bit of a risk taker, yet doesn't dive blindly into something. He also has a slight tendency to talk before he thinks, leading to some of his "speeches" to have a less than desired effect.

Strengths: Problem solving, thinking, rambling, and jumping
Faults: A bit of a risk taker, a bit louder than you'd like him to be, sticks his nose where it doesn't belong, and he has a bit of a short temper (nothing too serious, he'll probably just get mad before anyone else does, but he isn't going to explode at the drop of a hat)

Good, except for his clothing. Everyone in the group wakes up with medieval-era clothes, so modern clothing is out. Change that and you're approved.

This answers my question partially. Even if you get amnesia, you still know the names of objects.

So the general knowledge is medieval like not modern, right?

Even in modern day someone with amnesia knows what a car is, for example.

While a caveman wouldn't even know what a ruin is.

I must ask a few seemingly stupid questions.

Do we all know each other's names?

Do we know our own names?
