From Joystiq.com:
Quote:
Following Activision's filing of a pre-emptive lawsuit last week – asking a judge to dismiss guitar-maker Gibson's Guitar Hero patent claim and later saying it had "no merit" – and then Gibson's lawsuit against major retailers selling the game, Gibson has now filed a patent infringement lawsuit against ... well, not Activision. No, Gibson has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against former Guitar Hero developer Harmonix; Harmonix's parent company's parent company, Viacom; and Rock Band publisher and all around Guitar Hero-less innocent bystander Electronic Arts.

Gibson is claiming the aforementioned companies violate their 1999 patent covering "a system for electronically simulating participation by a user in a pre-recorded musical performance." For their money – even though they're not the ones being sued – Activision claims that "by waiting three years to raise its claim, Gibson had granted an implied license for any technology." Regardless of the outcome or the number of Gibson-branded plastic guitars out there, we suspect it won't be getting a fruit basket from the video game industry this holiday.

I didn't understand one word of that.

Someone is sueing someone who should actually be sueing someone over a game where you have to hit buttons in time with colors and music.

...........

People are just dumb.

Yeah, it is kinda confusing, and stupid on Gibson's part. :\

I think it's about time that game developers would realize they would make more money by just putting their heads together and making some fun games, rather than trying to be the top developer.

Gibsons just out to make money. Their quality control on their instruments is slipping, more people are not buying their instruments, and most of their income comes from their Electric guitars obviously. Which are REALLY affected by the slack in quality. More people are moving on to other guitar companies.

They're charging about $2000 or more for a guitar, and you can get the same, if not better quality for < $1000. So yeah, they're really just out for the money.

Whoaw, that took me a while to understand. XD
Man I find those kind of lawsuits lame...
Even if it were true, then it would mean that people like to play someone who plays the guitar more then actualy playing a guitar...

..lol..

Yet another ridiculous bit of litigation. I am so... oh my God... the censors on this forum wouldn't allow me to express my smoldering rage at these loony lawsuits.

Gibson's suit will be thrown out, because in waiting three years before raising the issue, they gave what we in the first aid biz call "Implied Consent". By staying silent as long as they did, they forfeited all right to raise any kind of complaint.

(For those that don't know, in first aid, implied consent means that if one is attempting to render aid to an unresponsive victim, and there is noone present that can speak on behalf of the victim, it is implied that they consent to any and all help rendered [/off topic])

It's simply Gibson's way of telling the world, "Hey, you idiots who like our guitars? We don't like YOU."

Electronic Arts should make a ripoff of Guitar Hero specifically designed around Gibson, named Guitar Villain. All the Gibson execs wear black tophats, capes, and waxed mustaches.

Why not Guitar Zero?
Take the Fable route.
Anyway, why does Gibson care so much is my question?

Or, because their skulls are embedded so far up their rectums, because, I can only assume they were searching from the few dollars they dropped, can they not see that it really isn't a big deal and that lawsuits aren't actually the solution to everything?
