My brother's, friend's surname is crosby,he has some strange idea it means "Brave Warrior", I found this hillarious, but that is an internal joke (Mainly refering to one of aurons statments). Some surnames are really cool some suck... bad... so what is you surname and what have you been told it means.

My surname is De Vos, I was wrapped when i found out what it means... Anyway, my dad is belgian so its dutch (HINT), It is meant to mean intelligence because its reference is considered smart. Here it is a introduced species, but it would be native to europe so yeah, makes more sense over their. 8) Chill Pill

Gallagher

Irish: reduced Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Gallchobhair ‘descendant of Gallchobhar’, a personal name from the elements gall ‘strange’, ‘foreign’ + cabhair ‘help’, ‘support’.

So in short, it means "Strange helper" or somthing of the like. And I admit I'm pretty strange :D

Paisley: While it is a type of pattern, it also means 'church' or 'cemetery.' I tend to lean towards the latter; I find it less depressing.

Graham - "(Origin Scottish) From the Anglo Saxon Grim, Dutch, Grim, German, Grimm, Welsh, grem, Gaelic, gruaim: surly, sullen, dark, having a fierce and stern look, courageous."

I've always considered myself a little more optimistic than this description, personally :?

*Edit* I got interested in this topic and found a really cool website, www.mybirthcare.com , which actually gives descriptions of what people are usually like depending on their name. For example, people with my full name - "tend to initiate events, to be leaders rather than followers, with powerful personalities. They tend to be focused on specific goals, experience a wealth of creative new ideas, and have the ability to implement these ideas with efficiency and determination. They tend to be courageous and sometimes aggressive. As unique, creative individuals, they tend to resent authority, and are sometimes stubborn, proud, and impatient."

Not sure how to credit the site, considering it's kind of ironic that I supposedly resent authority but am in the Army.

My full name loosely translates to:

The Lord has given the valley of the protected forests.

My entire name is of English descent, save for my first name, Jonathan, which could be considered of Biblical descent.

And for anyone who wants to know: http://www.behindthename.com/

My last name is Egan.
My dad was Irish and German so I can't tell what my name actually comes from, and it doesn't appear to have a definition anywhere.
I THINK IT MEANS AWESOME TO THE MAX.

I really don't know much about my roots, but I believe "Gooch" was actually "Gouche (?)". When my ancestors originally came to Canada, they wanted to sound more English because of all the bad rep about French and Irish immigrants.

I’m a big mix of backgrounds I believe. Irish, Scottish, Icelandic, British and French are all I can think of for now. So when people just ask what my background is, I usually just say Canadian lol.

Also, I’m related to a watch maker for Queen Elizabeth the 1st, and to a Pirate captain named Green Beard, who was caught and hung lol.

Hagen- means "house", like your family line. or the actual building, I dunno.
Also as a first name it means "high son", so I think it's more the family than the building meaning of house.

Also other family names:
Chandler- I think has something to do with people who make candles.

Caldwell(my middle name too)- means "cold well". well as in the thing with water in it, I think.

Also Bahr, which I can't really find much about it, but I think it has something to do with the ocean. Or bears. :?

My last name is Peachey... Uh... I stole this off a site.. it doesn't actually give meaning.. but it's kinda the history..

Swiss German: probably an altered form of Swiss Büchi. However, in The Mennonite Encyclopedia Bitsche (or Bitschi) is proposed as the origin.
English: variant of Peach.
