Chapter 1: Global Warming

Chapter 2: Storm

Chapter 3: Flying and Swimming (previous title)

Intro

Jack Davidson, an infantry and researcher for a few years, was promoted to sergeant a while ago. Jack is in bed dreaming of the day the accident came, which was a nightmare compared to most dreams Jack has. He and a few others were on a mission one day, and the closest friend of Jack's got shot, Daniel Grouse. Here is what he dreamt of, which has occurred long ago. It was a summer day, and I can still remember the clouds on top of us, soaring from one direction to another with an endless void of continuous gases floating above. It was in the dessert, down in Iraq. We were to protect a squadron while they fall in behind. The people were passing by, with not a smile in sight.

The hands of the residents filled the air as I watched while the tank drove by them. They were frightened, and I couldn’t go a moment without looking at the Iraqi residents. Daniel was the engineer on the tank behind us. We started to slow after 15 minutes or so once we got into the Iraqi villages. We started to make a left turn at a bridge and I looked back, and Daniel was sitting on top. Suddenly their tank halted, and I made the decision to halt after them. They had stopped. I quickly dismounted from the vehicle, and Daniel asked why they were not continuing to follow. The large barrel began to move to the right, and stopped to move upwards facing the building on the far end.

Daniel began to climb down into the tank’s firing room to give a hand with the ammunition load when suddenly a light from the building filled the surrounding area. A large object started accelerating at enormous strength, just when the chaff lit to misfire. In less then a few seconds an explosion from the ballistic missile seemed to have just missed the tank by the chaff and the shockwave could be more then 30 meters as the ground shook. A dent was made while the shell hit the tank’s steel hull. Suddenly another light came from the east side of the buildings and was too much for the chaff, and before we realized it, the tank that Daniel had been in exploded with a shockwave that could have shook the entire village. I mounted the tank again and we pulled back along with the barrel simultaneously swung. The remaining hull was crushed by our tracks.

One command and the barrel would have fired without hesitation. It was our turn to do the damage and strike the city. A large explosion exiting the barrel sent a shell spinning towards the terrorists, and struck like thunder. Bodies have been flying out of the building and under the rubble was the man who killed Daniel. I quickly dismounted again and the tank moved out of the area. Radio exclaims the attack and troops come out moments later to secure the perimeter. I silently stared at the destruction of the tank Daniel had been mounted in. The horrific look on my face caught the attention of many, and gathered around the rubble while I came on my knees.

Chapter 1: Global Warming

[chapter picture]

It was time for school, and I had still been in bed. The alarm woke me, and I quickly rose to drive my hand down on the large snooze button. My hand slid, and I didn’t even bother to raise my head to see what I was hitting. “I guess it’s time to get up...” I drawlingly spoke. I arose and got my pants, while rubbing my eyes. I turned the lights on, and it burned the fragile eyes I get every morning when I wake up. Seven o’clock and I looked up at my calendar to see what had been scheduled this week. ‘School’ was filling in 3 days of the week, where Teacher Days, the very special events that teachers plan the events for the teenagers that went to school, and this week they crossed out Friday and Monday.

As soon as I picked up my school planner, it hit me. It was Thursday today, and I started cursing to myself. I quickly rushed down the stairs still putting on my socks and nearly tripped. I suddenly was out the door and I forgot my keys and my school bag. I rushed inside to go get it and now the bus was already making its way up the steep hill. I locked the door as fast as I can with my school bag in my left hand, gripping it tightly. The door locked and I started making my way up the hill sprinting, and the bus stopped ahead where it normally does to pick us up. The large bar started to move as I swung to avoid it, and when I got on I started walking towards the back of the bus with a smile on my face.

I hadn’t noticed I had a strange smile on me, and the bus was half empty. “Wow, I made it” saying in a small tone still clearing my throat. I was very amazed myself, since the bus always comes earlier. At least I didn’t have to walk to my school. The bus stopped a few more times down the way to the school to pick up more people. I’m in grade 9, and I’m 14 years old. It’s October the 7th, 2010. The bus came to a halt and we all got off the bus, and same as usual Devon was waiting for me. Devon is a girl at my school, and as odd of a name it seems, she is still a girl, and one of my best friends at that.

“Hey Jack!” she happily exclaimed. “Oh, hey. Do you know what classes we have today, because I think I forgot my agenda again?” as I started to open my bag. She replies to me in somewhat a worried yet calm tone, “Not again, you’re going to have to start remembering what you have to get when you wake up.” We argued for a while, cursing now and then. People at my school curse all the time, as part of a natural cycle. Devon had that look again, and I paused. My other best friend Jaffur walked by and I told Devon I had to go.

Jaffur is really cool at our school. His grades were above average too. “Hey man, sup” he said. “Forgot my schedule again, hey do you know what classes are up?” I reply, “Yeah, first geography then English. Then worst two classes after that, French and Drama”. I laughed, and we went inside the school. Suddenly, one of the most hated students was inside the cafeteria, named Robbie. We paused with a shock on both our faces when he was the center of attention in the entire area. He was completely embarrassing himself in front of everyone, me and Jaffur looked at each other and looked back at Robbie. He was behind every girl in the area saying Hey or some stupid punch line.

He was trying to get the girls again. Yeah, we were friends with him, unfortunately. He’s a cool kid, but acts crazy around other girls, trying to hang out with them or make them fall in love. He’s a player, and once he gets going, there’s no stopping him. We pulled him out of the way as fast as we could as his last few words before doing so were “I’ll be back girls! I promise!”. “What the hell are you doing Robbie? Don’t you have a clue what your doing?” I said. “Sure I do, getting the girls like always. Relax,” Robbie replies nudging his head, “It’s only human to have a little fun”.

“That little fun is what’s going to get you in big trouble” Explained Jaffur. “Listen, we got major stuff to do, it’s almost the end of the term. You know what that means – Exams. Besides, how many girlfriends do you have now?” I smiled, and Jaffur started to laugh. Later in the day we were heading to our first class, Geography. We had good laughs there; most of the jokes were spoken from the one television program everyone loved to watch, Stupid Monkey. It was a program about ordinary television shows and stations turned the other way around, like American Idol as Zombie Idol. It was a great show that even some of our teachers watch, though the violence and cursing was mild.

We got to our classes, and it was nearly 2 minutes when the teacher walked in. Today everyone knew that it was going to be on global warning, ‘cause that’s what the exams are based on, after all. With the large pointer he tapped on the side of the black board, the roaring noise settled. This man had been substituting our previous teacher, Mr. Wakelin. “Good morning class, I’m your substitute for today, my name is Austin but you may call me Mr. Gerald.” The substitute said in a deep voice. “Your teacher told me you were studying Global Warming.” He followed. The class remained silent as the teacher got out the chalk for the board. We starred as he picked a white coloured chalk from the box.

There was nothing too special about him, though. We just had nothing to do. Some started talking about the pants he’s wearing, the girls of course. It was a blue type jean pants and the girls had been exchanging thought about the teacher. Mr. Wakelin quickly wrote the necessary information we will require for the exams. As followed, a pencil, a sharpener and an eraser. I started writing it down on a piece of paper since I didn’t bring my Agenda. The list was copied, and the class started talking about bringing pens. I raised my hand.

The teacher picked me. “Are we allowed pens?” I said. The teacher replies “No, It’s easier to erase when you have a pencil”. There goes that thought, and the class started calming down. “Today we will be watching a video on Global Warming. I will hand out these sheets, and all you have to do is pay attention to this video and write the answers down.” We all got handed sheets with numerous questions on them. I picked up my pencil and gently brushed my name on the top line that says Name Here. I stopped and looked at my sheet for a moment to try and solve the questions on my own, but sadly all the questions relate to the film or I just didn’t know the answer. The TV was brought into the room and the teacher put the DVD inside.

He clicked the Play button on the remote and we all quieted down. “The Inconvenient Truth” the movie was named. This man named Al Gore came to speak to us about global warming, and where it says “The Speaker’s Name” I wrote the name down. After the presentation we each discreetly shared our opinions and answers. The globe really was getting to its hottest. The bell rings and the teacher asked to put the sheets inside our folders. We went to the next class, English. Before then we had a chance to put our binders inside our lockers. My locker was number 42 on the far right side of the school.

Chapter 2: Storm

[chapter picture]

To our English class, I saw the new girl in school. I was unfamiliar with her name, and she looked shy. When I passed by, I looked at her binder. Taylor. Her name was Taylor. I got a little too hyper, but then she walked by. I looked to my front and tried to ignore her. She had long, brown hair.

The day went by pretty fast and before I knew it I was outside on break. English class calls for a pen of two colours. I went to the center of the field as usual to play a little soccer with the guys. I did what I do every soccer game, cracked my jaws and got my kick warmed up. “You playing center again” Said one of the students. “Yeah I’ll handle this one. Do you know who’s facing today” I responded. Another student overheard and came over. “Yup, girls team.” He said. “The girl’s team? Really? I never even thought they could warm up. Jack, you can handle this easy.” “Alright. And which ball we using today, Collin’s?” I said. “Nope. Collin’s ball blew out, we’re using Chase’s.” responded one of the students.

I went center field today. It isn’t every day someone goes to the center. It was just an average group of students going ahead with whoever they could find. Chase, one of my friends, kicked the ball in field and we waited for the girls. They came in our sight and we got a little jumpy. The girls got onto the field and we kicked the ball upwards. Robbie was in the net. I kicked the ball as hard as I could and it flung all the way across the field and hit the goalpost of the girl’s net.

We charged like a group of champion football players, with our raging battle cries. One kick here and there and I have the ball. I pass it and run towards the net while he passes it back. It doesn’t usually work but I was feeling lucky. I take a shot and the spinning ball almost breaks the net, it’s a score! The girls barely did anything to try and stop us, except for a little nudge to stop the ball from scoring. We got bored after a while, and most on our team weren’t even trying. The bell rang, and I started my way up to the school.

French was next. We all hated French class, since the only thing the teacher ever did was talk continuously. The only thing anyone had difficulty in was French anyway, and again, it’s because the only thing our teacher does is talk, and we barely get assigned homework. It’s like a jail, but this time you can’t even get to move out of your seat without being asked to sit back down. At our lockers, we got the necessary materials required for class. The fun was over, and it was time to pay even closer attention then before, though nobody even cared what she had to say. I got into my desk, at the third row second seat. We had to thank the bell for having an extra get ready break.

I know I was early, but I didn’t want to be in French class at all. I might as well skip, because nothing ever happens here. Nobody was around; and I sneaked out the door discreetly. I hid inside one of the lockers, since it isn’t being used. So far skipping is going good. I waited a while until the bell rang. I could hear the roaring footsteps of everyone running through the halls. When it finally quieted down I slowly opened the door of the locker I was in, hoping nobody was around.

I actually skipped a class this time. I really did, and I never thought I would. Of course I will get in trouble when they find out, but I don’t care, because no punishment is worse then being inside the French class. Suddenly a thump in the other locker, and a few words were spoken. Then, the locker’s door beside me shut open. “Hey, you skipped too?” He said. I peeked inside the locker, and there was Robbie. He had skipped his class and hid in the locker beside me, which really was a strange coincidence. “Robbie? What are you doing here?” I said. “Isn’t it obvious? I’m skipping! I hate French class!” Robbie said. “Wait, I thought you had math. You were in French class all along! I never saw you even step inside to see what it’s like.” “Yeah, well a friend of mine told me that the teacher doesn’t do anything, and that was before school even started” Robbie said.

“I’m just as surprised as you, really. I never knew you skipped! Welcome to the club man” “Wait, so what happened to your grades?” I said. “Don’t you know that the exams have changed? Exams count for everything, and my second language is French.” Robbie said as he got out of the locker to walk around. “Where are you going in a hurry?” I said. “Haven’t you ever wondered what’s going on around front?” Robbie replied. “There’s so much stuff up there. I sometimes even spot police coming in. It’s great when you get to sneak into the cafeteria, nobody’s there. You can get anything you want!” It sounded like a good offer at first, but if I got caught, I’d be paying in hard candy, the caramel dollars that were sitting on a table ready to be devoured. “Well, I’m already out, so I guess there’s no harm in taking a…” I paused, and had an evil look on my face. “A Donut?” Robbie stretched the word.

Yes, no doubt about it, they’ve got thousands in stock! They’d never notice a thing! “Ok fine, I guess it wouldn’t hurt.” I said. We rushed down the halls as discreetly as we could. Suddenly, as we were rushing down the stairs the announcements came. “All students and all teachers, please report to the gym”. We immediately changed direction to follow the crowds. Peering out the window walking by a strange liquid started pouring. It wasn’t rain, it couldn’t be. It looked much too thick and dark. “Hmm, what is that?” I said. “Probably rain?” replied Robbie. The strange thing was, it had a strange dark-red glow.

“Good afternoon students” The principal said in a bold voice, while we sat down inside the gymnasium. “On the behalf of the board, we will be sending you home”—Everybody started whispering to each other. One student put their hand up, “Why are we going home anyway?” “Because of the storms heading this way.” The principal announced. Another student shouted out. “There isn’t going to be one, well nothing severe anyway. It’s just going to rain” “What, our principal hasn’t ever seen rain before?” The crowd started laughing silently.

The moment after a few explosions were heard outside. I was frightened myself. A few screams lead me with slight hearing problems, as the explosions got larger. Some students started getting up and heading for the door, others saw and went with them. It came to my row and I got up, looking for a window. As I came to the door to the stairway I looked up, and Robbie was still hanging on a light. "Come on down Robbie" I hollered. "Just jump it. If you don't think you can then I guess I could catch you." Frightened, Robbie jumped down and with sufficient force landed right on top of me before collapsing towards the floor. Robbie got off me, and I got up.

"Here, we need to get to the base on the other side of the lake, It's where I work." I said pointing out the windows on the main floor. It was a dark building with a large tank just outside the garage. Just beyond the school. We had to go around.

While heading out from the exit the sky was pitch black. It was terrifying for some to see that no sun was shown. There were no lights except for the lights on the building. “What about everyone else?” Robbie questioned. “We’ll have to come back for them in the trucks, I plan to evacuate towards the harbour 2 kilometres from here” I replied. I didn’t like the idea of keeping everyone else outside in the dark rain, but the trucks are better then walking. Half way to the base we could feel the rain falling harder, and each second the ground of sludge became thicker. “Whoa” I nearly tripped but Robbie helped me stay standing.

“Just a little more” I said. Suddenly at a distance behind us we could hear more of the small explosions we heard from inside. We were too far to go back; we had to get to the trucks inside. Three quarter way there and we were nearly exhausted. “We can’t stop. Not now, just a little more.” Robbie said as we both started to slow down. We were finally there and I told Robbie to wait at the garage. I went through the main doors after a thumbprint scan. Some personnel were in the briefing room and I entered panting. “C-corporal; open the garage, w-we’re evacuating to the docks.” I took a deep breathe and corporal Sanders went for the garage control panel.

“Any explanation to this Sergeant?” One of my officers said, chief of the military corps I was in. Everybody got their weapons, grenades and machine guns. I got my pistol from my locker. “Sir, we’re evacuating to the docks from the storm” I explained. “Very well then, if it’s that serious. Just what are you planning to do Davidson.” “I’m taking an evacuation procedure to the docks onto one of the cargo ships.” I added. Someone came through the door, “Sir we have a small problem.” He said. We both came out through the garage and there was an enormous airship above us. “Contact them I want access codes. Meanwhile get your coat Sergeant.” The chief passes me a coat, as one went inside to the radios. “Robbie!” I shouted to him. “Robbie, come on, get in the truck” I added. Robbie had been starring up at the airship above.

I mounted inside and got to the back turret. Meanwhile Devon wasn’t too far from where we were, she came looking for us. “Where are they?” She said. “Sir, no response coming from the aircraft. No response on radar either, it might be jamming our communications” Said the man coming out of the building to inform the chief. The trucks started up and Robbie snapped out of the haze. The chief was right beside me and we started to move when Devon showed up. “Devon, get on and I’ll explain” I shouted to her. She had smiled as she saw me and got on. “We’re evacuating. We need to get to the docks just two kilometres from here.” I said. “Isn’t that a little far?” She replied. “Yeah, but we don’t have anywhere else to go. Driver, all clear” I added. Driving along we could see the students, and we stopped to let them on. The large airship behind us started following and a large blue search light had lit up. Suddenly the aircraft started firing at us, it was very hard to describe what they were firing. “Alert the air force to take it out!” The chief said. “Fire Davidson, Fire!” He added and I started firing at the pods. “I think that’s where the gas is” I hollered as the roar of the barrel shot.

A large flame lit up on the left side and imploded, as the aircraft started to descend. “We need to carry these people to the docks, I’ll stay here.” I bravely said. The truck I was on pulled over to the right as the airship crashed on our entire school. It was truly a massive aircraft. The ground shook and frightened some people. I looked back, “Devon, go with them. I’ll catch up.” I dismounted. With a machine gun in my hand and a grenade in my left, I paused to let the others pass. “Now go, I’ll be there eventually.” I said. “Yes sir” The driver replied, and left with Devon and the chief. “Time to kick some butt” I said. I loaded my gun and walked toward the aircraft that had crashed.

I came to the front door of my school and went inside. The walls were covered in a type of plant. I stepped in a root, “Is it too much to ask for a normal day?”. Debris from the ship were easily seen from down the hallway. As I got to the fountain there was a ramp made from the explosion, also penetrating to the inside. I stepped in and it smelled horrifying. Well, it was either the gas or the toilet it crashed on. The gas must have been a type of sewer I thought. There were a few dents and an air pocket on the wall. I set my grenade on a string and went to a safe distance. It was even more dangerous with all the gas in the air, so I had to fall back to a place where the ground wasn’t infested with roots. I came to the end of the string unexpectedly and pulled it. A massive fire lit and destroyed all the plants. “This is going to take longer then I hoped.” Back in the pods the air pocket had been pulverized. A large crack let me fit through. It was an electrical maze as I got inside, running everywhere I could see. It had been like a large metallic wire. I followed the tunnels inside and I came to a difficult challenge; There was no ladder.

I had to set my legs against both sides and try to jump up. I tried climbing the wires. When I got to the top there were crates everywhere, but in an odd form. They were like pods. “Whoever built this thing doesn’t know what a cube is.” I quietly said aloud. Down the hall I could hear short grunts, and as I approached they got louder. I aimed towards the noise. On the ceiling was a small starfish-like organism. I could hear the grunts, and when I stepped on a twig I paused. What an inconvenient place for a twig. The organism turned around and had four eyes across. I aimed at it, and a screech was made that could have been heard from the entire area. I shot a few rounds and it headed to the air vent up top. I missed, “What are those things? Whatever they are I don’t think they want to be our friends” I said. Out of all my time, I never saw anything as such. It climbed like a spider and looked like a starfish.

I approached the vent and threw a poisonous gas grenade inside. If that is it’s door, then I wasn’t sure what it’s air vent was. I heard creeks in the walls around me. I tried finding a Normal door to use. There was a small tunnel large enough I could crawl through it. I started on my chest with the gun on my back. I saw a few glowing panels, they were brightly illuminated so I turned my flashlight off. There were more grunts coming from the right side. I was worried they could eat through the metals, but that was just because I watch way too much television. I got to the other end and I could see many of the organisms. “Last grenade, make it count” I whispered as I kissed the grenade and pulled the pin. I tossed it and the explosion shook the ship. Bodies filled the floor. I went over and I could see a panel of some type, though I couldn’t read the symbols.

I tried sliding the knob in the right corner and a door opened. It looked like it was a brig, but then I saw rabbits- Ordinary rabbits in a spherical chamber. On the right side were a few squirrels in the same type of chamber. The back walls opened and as far as I could see there were rabbits and squirrels on a treadmills feeding energy to the aircraft. I always knew aliens would use them for this purpose, but where are the cows? I have quite an imagination after all. It was warm in this room, so warm it slightly frightened me. I came to the large vent at the end. Again I had to crawl inside. The roar of a thousand footsteps haunted the next room, where it had been a tight empty space.

Chapter 3: Flying and Swimming

It was crowded. I suppose I have to find something in here. I searched around, and I found a panel over my head. It had no handle and it didn’t seem to open from my side. I bashed it a little and used my machine gun to break through. It was foggy inside, and it looked more like a cockpit of a small aircraft. I sat down on a small lump and a holographic display showed. I fooled around with it then I looked towards the top panel; There was a sealed hole inside. If I knew anything about alien technology, I’d say it’s a button. I opened the case and pressed down on the small button. I heard thumps and felt something moving behind my seat. I looked over and nothing was there. I closed the hatch and thought it was an escape pod.

I pressed the release button I guess. There were buttons I found to my left, almost as a controller. They were attached to a few other wires. I wish our science expert Siverman were here, he could be a help. I started pressing down on the button with a ring in front of the hole. The spacecraft suddenly jumped and I hit the wall in front of me. The display shifted to a heat sensor. I could see the ground outside and the ship behind. There were other symbols beside the buttons, and looked touchable. I touched the glowing symbol and the view completely shifted.

It was a case that I had been in, made out of holographic projections. I could see everything around me as if I were outside. I pushed the main button again but slower this time. The pod I was in started to shift a few places. I seemed to of been descending into a nose dive. I touched the bottom ring and it stabilized. It was hard to control. Eventually I got the hang of it. This could go in all directions, it was the coolest vehicle I’ve ever been in. I made my way to the harbour. I was over the harbour and I didn’t know how to land, so I crashed at the nearby pier. I opened the hatch and I had landed sideways. I came out and hurried over to the barge. Everyone was getting on. “Sergeant? Where have you been? How’d you get here?” Siverman said. “Had to take a detour, didn’t have time for a drive. I flew.” I replied.

“Okay, odd story. So did you make contact or what?” He added. “Very funny Siverman. Actually I did but I’ll spare the details once we get on.” I said. I came to the bridge and spoke into the microphone, “Everybody get on board. Bring only what you need. We are currently planning our destination.” I said. I rushed out and scattered across the barge looking for Devon. “Devon? Are you here?” I yelled over the crowd. The chief walked up to me. “She’s in the rooms below” He said. I went to the stairs and hurried downstairs. “Devon?” I yelled.

“Jack? Is that you?” A voice came from one of the rooms ahead. I went over and opened the door, and she popped out at me without warning and gave a kiss. Okay, this is awkward, I never would of known she would just open the door and kiss me. I enjoyed it while it lasted. It was, enjoyable. She was smiling and I could tell right away she was happy to see me. “That was weird.” I said. She laughed, “I’m just glad your back.” She added. “Okay, well I’ve got important business to take care of upstairs. I’ll be back shortly.” I said. “Yeah, okay. Is everyone on the ship?” She said. “I know your trying to stall for time, but I’ve really got to do something important. I’ll meet back here okay?” I replied, coming up to the main deck.

In the cabin on the highest point I came in through the hatch. It was silent, and some starred at me. Ambient music was playing in the corner. “Chief, are we ready to go” I said. He replied, “Not just yet. We’re still gathering food and supplies”. “The explosions stopped, I’m guessing that you Saved the day?” He added. “Hell yeah I did. I saw a map inside, though. It was a layout of our planet.” I replied.

:P True, but its best if you put things in the correct section ahead of time. Keeps things neat and tidy. Yash will move it for you once he sees it, no worries.

Hmm. Your writing suffers from heavy redundancies (surrounding area, stopped to move upwards, etc.)
Try paring your sentence structure down a bit.

lol, i will do all the editting when i finish it. I concentrate on writing it all then going back to fix everything. However due to few complaints I will do a quick edit+replace step, I will be re-doing the names.
Code:
Jaffur -> Mike (I decided this)
Robbie -> Kyle (Complaint)
Taylor -> Meghan (I decided this)

Best to edit as you write, I find. It's less work in the end, believe it or not. Finish it completely as a rough draft, you risk deciding to do something better near the beginning that will throw off the rest of the story, i.e., rewriting.

The library is filled with the knowledge or krashiik weapons, history, technology- Truely they were at a greater age. Stone Henge was the domain to a higher plain of existance among the stars, as the galaxy opens to the alignment of all the stars to exist within the gate will be opened.
