We were just patient, and prefered to work with the British toward independance rather than fight for it and leave ourselves stranded. Plus, your country tried to invade us a couple of times, so we were kind of wary of cutting the apron strings with the most powerful nation in the world at that point.
You have to remember, the US was not always Canada's best ally and trading partner. Sure, now it might be about 80% of our goods, but at 1900 it was less than 33%. Imagine what things were like in 1782?
Canada was given or purchased their land, territories and provinces joined willingly.

And our flag looks way hotter stretched over big boobs in tight cotton tops.
