So, gonna do this thread like an art thread, posting all my scribblies here.

This is what happens when I get tune and lyrics at the same time, inspired by an incredible Fall Sunrise.

Come Away

Over the hills comes ringing
Over the dale men, singing
Into my heart, comes winging
A melody so sweet and strong:

Come away, come away, come away,
Follow me today, today
Come away, take heart, take heed
Follow me, adventure's seed

Over the hills, I wander
Over the dales, and yonder
Into the wild and wonder, I follow swift, and sure, and strong

Come away, come away, come away
Follow me today, today
Come away, take heart take heed
Follow me , your own soul's need.

This is what happens when it comes all at once: short.

If you wanna hear the tune: http://hosted.filefront.com/Wynnefredd

Not bad, both are pretty original in their own sense, and not just another version of your first two. I see you attempted using multiple layers in 'Rose, rose, rose, rose'. That makes it interesting to listen to, and is fairly melodic as a result, but there is some bad synchronization and external sounds at points. If you are still using Audacity, you might want to try lowering the volume of one layer, so you create a main and support layer of singing. That makes it easier for someone to concentrate on and it will allow the support track to meld into the background. Playing the track at the same time as recording the next might help keep the two tracks together, so they don't sound like a tangled mess.

'Come away' doesn't leave me with much to say, but I'll try. It has lyrics that work with the melody. In fact, the tune is rather soothing, if not a bit haunting around the chorus. The last lines of both choruses have a bit of a break in between the words. In my opinion, it might be better if you just flowed through them, then trail off. You seem to take breaths in the middle of some lines, which is pretty jarring for this melody. Timing between verses was slightly inconsistent, but I can't really hold that against you.

Now the rest of you, the ones who looked at the above post. If you look at the thread, at least say something. This board suffers from one of the smallest followings, aside from the tech board and thanks to the roleplaying board. In fact, I don't think this place even has a moderator anymore.

Rose, Rose, Rose was good to listen, too. The layering was pretty good. There were times in the song where the layering was perfect, but there were times that I could not understand the words or I had to listen very very closely to make out the words.

Come Away probably has the best melody out of the four (at least in my opionon). As Fatalcrash said, the melody was very soothing. The only thing I think that needs work is that at times you seem to pause or speed up your voice in order to try to keep up with the melody. Well, actually I guess that is what is suppose to happen. What I mean is, I am no vocal expert or singer to point out, but your voiced at times seemed a little forced (if that makes any sense). Over all though, I think it is my favorite out the 4 so far :D .

I feel like listening to some Enya now!

Rose is an old SCA round, and I noticed that when I would try to add to the end of a track, Audacity would play even as I was trying to record, so I used that to try my hand at Rose.

Come Away is a HARD one to support breathwise, especially while imp wrestling. I need to do my old breathing exercises, and post a better version. (or maybe try it once baby boy is out for the count---but then i get to try it softly /cringe. (note: it takes more control and air capacity to sing soft sustained notes).

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback, and the suggestions for improvement are a big help /hugs all---

WOW Story: Branberian's training rant

This is one of my humorous WOW tales, enjoy!

With the return of Summer, the Shaman was once again on her hectic rounds of duties, and she happened upon a young warrior she knew quite well: Branberian. Now just the name of this young upstart warrior is worth a tale in itself. It was the birth of this youngling that set both Taurens on their life paths. Branberian's birth was the first time Bera's shaman gift showed itself.

At the birth of each tauren, a totem reading is done, but the old shaman could not read the life of this one. A big sister, impatient to help, looked over the old shaman's shoulder and declared, in a voice echoing with the ages, "She's to be a warrior of skill and renown." With nine words, two lives were set in motion down different paths.

"How goes your training?"

"I believe I am to empty the barrens of all pig people." Berian sat down hard on a nearby rock. "I am to collect so many tusks for this task; gather weapons that only exist in my trainers imagination, for I have yet to find one in fifty fights for my life; I am to track down this leader, and that leader, and oh yeah, go kill predators that have evaded my teachers for years."

Bera could hardly contain her mirth at her young sister's rantings, for she was prone to very similar rants during her training. "Are you taking your trials alone?"

"No, most of them I have the company of Celwyn. He's following your path, by the way."

"How is it possible for you to train together?"

"Oh, he has his little shaman quests that lead him all over Azeroth, like a glorified water boy, but there's much that is the same, for the wandering life. . .speaking of which, how's that sappy druid of yours?"

"You still haven't forgiven him for rooting you when you were twelve, have you?"

"I could have made that jump. . ."

"Nobody makes a jump from Thunderbluff . ..

"I had a parachute, that goblin showed me. . ."

"Who do you think told Cudzoo what you were up to. .. "

"What??"

"I hear she's working for the Venture company in Stone Talon now. .. . "

"Funny that, I have business out that way. . ."

Can't say much except for the following.

Female Tauren = Cow?

Not really a lot of description.

Like Rexis and Kestra, there are certain points which are 'out of universe', if such a term exists. For example, are 'water boys' in WoW? I wouldn't know, because I don't play it. Hate MMOs. I had the idea water boys were in charge of the, well, water for a sports team. Like that movie of the same name.

Nice. Might be one of the most memorable quotes around the forum for me. But, who exactly are the pig people? The only reason I know of the barrens is their Chuck Norris chat. I never bothered finding out what they were killing at the same time.

As this is my thread, started by me, about my writing, I would appreciate it if I didn't have to worry about my replies disappearing!

This story was originally written for my WoW guild forum, where everyone is already familiar with the settings and quests. The pig people are the quill boars, and they look like bipedal hogs.

Tauren look like large bovine bipeds...though not herbivores. Most of my characters are taurens, (I started playing wow right after my 2nd daughter was born...felt an odd kinship for the race...that and they have a native american style culture).

second point: water boys are not necessarily anachronistic. In fact, foot ball uses them for the same reason a medieval style culture would.....heavy exertion in armor will make one overheat and dehydrate. So football is carrying on an extremely old tradition.

Point taken about the water boys. And I had no idea Taurens ate meat. That aside, I've noticed that since Warcraft tended to use a single gender for most of the armies it featured, choosing the other gender became very a very odd choice. Female Taurens, female Orcs, male night elves, etc etc.

I kept thinking of male Taurens as looking like bulls. When WoWcraft came out, I saw the character creation screen and immediately went:

Wait, you've got to be shtting me.

Taurens eat meat? Huh...I never knew that. I have only played Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne, so I don't know all the details about the races that WoW shows. Nice story though.

Though I like the Warcraft universe, I am not going to get WoW or any other MMOGS. I have this little issue about paying a monthly fee :? . To me, having to pay a fee would seem to me like the creators "forcing" you to play the game, to get all your money's worth in a since. I would like to try a MMOG if it were free, where it be RPG, FPS, OR RTS style I do not really care. I think it would be fun.

Back and Forth
chorus:
Back and Forth, Dizzy swing
Someday I'll fly like the birds that sing

Back and forth, Higher Still
Someday I'll touch the sky, Yes I will!

In my Garden All alone
Sits my swing which is my throne
Everyday here court I hold
To find an escape before I'm old

chorus

No one knows how lonely grows
Time, with only long shadows
And a rose though pretty be
Cannot keep me company

chorus

Up and over lonely halls
Up and over shadowed walls
Up into that great blue sky
I, oh I, have learned to fly

I, oh I, have learned to fly.

(no, she didn't die, quit being morbid)

I can say that these are easily the best lyrics you've come up with so far.

Brings be back when I used to play on the swings during elementary school. We would have contest to see who could jump off and land the farthest. The the fastest form of play, but it was fun.

Great job on the lyrics! They are some of the best yet.

Mulgore Menace

So there I was, on the Golden Plains, all of Mulgore's Grace and Beauty there for my enjoyment, when suddenly .. . ..a shriek of pure terror rent the air. Naturally, I went to inspect, and found a tiny little gnome up a tree, with a kodo beneath, polishing his horns on the bole. I couldn't help it, I rolled with laughter.

"Would you be so good as to draw that wretched beast away, so that I might descend? This is no way to treat such an important warlock as myself."

"And were you a competent warlock, you'd know this beast meant you no harm, and would be about your business."

There we stood, in the late afternoon sun of a Beautiful Golden Plains day, in a haze of mutual unimpressed. The Gnome did not appear to be impressed with my logic, and I clearly was not impressed with his consequence. We waited for the kodo to amble off.

The gnome was so intent on the kodo's retreating form that he startled badly when I finally spoke again. "Now, unless you are going to admit being afraid of me; it appears safe to come down." The warlock nearly lost his perch at my voice.

I laughed. His already red face became redder, and his discomfort only made his dismount that more difficult. I laughed harder. The final disgrace occurred: he fell out of the tree onto his rear. I rolled with laughter.

"I am a warlock of consequence, I am afraid of nothing! I wield powers of which you only can dream!" He was holding so much power, his beady little eyes shone like lamps.

One of the first lessons a spell caster learns: never hold power while angry. My laughter dried like a squall in Durotar. My home was precious to me, and this little runt was threatening the very existence of everything within twenty leagues--including Thunderbluff.

"You do realize holding that much power when your emotions are out of check is a very dangerous game to play?" Foolish shaman! Reason will not work on this creature, think!

"Games! I play no games! Now you see me as powerful and dangerous, where before I was just a joke. Could it be that you are learning respect at last?"

"I have always respected the damage power can cause, especially uncontrolled power." Careful shaman, this gnome is not playing with a full deck, do not tip him over here where there is too much at stake. Where though? Ahhhh, two problems with one exploding gnome, now that sounds wonderful. How to lure him there?

"Bah! I easily control more power in my sleep than you ever will! I'll show you! A contest! You will contest with me shaman, in who can summon and control the most power!" Blessed Earth Mother, he's doing the hard part for me!

"I am not as confident as you gnome, I would rather try this somewhere I know I will do no harm, and I do not think there is sufficient life here for you to draw on, to truly impress me, correct?" Thankfully, all the herds had moved on to the waterholes, so the plains did look barren from here.

"Fine, I issued the challenge, you make pick the place." The gnome still hadn't relinquished his hold on magical energies, and his eyes were glowing fiercer than ever. Could I get him there in time?

"The Dwarven mine is chock full of robust dwarves, and the caves will keep a reign on the energies should they escape; there will suffice." Oh, could we get there in time?

"Well shaman, we are here, now show me what you can do." I am still amazed the dwarves permitted us entrance, since the last time I was here I culled their numbers. But then, none of these saw me do that. Since more diggers winked at me than I cared to count on our entry, perhaps they wanted the little rudity to get his comeuppance as well.

"I have never played this game, and do not know what to do. Please, show me what is expected?" Stroke the ego to its doom, stroke the ego to its doom . . . .

"Watch then, shaman, and learn what true power is!" The gnome was already so lit, he looked more like a foresaken than a living being. One thing I knew and was counting on: Warlock's power draws on life, including that of its caster. So all I had to do was wait . . .

The rocks beneath his feet began to melt. His skin shriveled and cracked. His eyes were nigh on incandescent with power, and still he called upon more. When his knees buckled, and his head bent to the point it touched the melted stones, I struck.

A lightening bolt quickly followed by an earthshock disintegrated his body, and pushed the energies he summoned into the very bedrock of the mines.
I could feel the tremors start as I called up ethereal power to whisk me home. I will not be surprised to learn there is one less mine in Mulgore tomorrow.

http://www.myspace.com/branberaYou'll find all kinds of wow stories and whatnot browsing through the blog, including this one. Just posting a little something interesting here, so I dont' get so buried I can't find it  and of course I think it's a good read.

Nice update.

I just have a couple questions. Is this connected to the story you previously posted on this thread or is it seperate?

Also, just two comments. What exaclty is the narrator. I was kind of lost that there was not description of the narrator. Is the narrator a tauren, blood elf, or what? Also, I thought the scene transition from the plains to mines was a little too quick (at least to me).

I found it funny when the gnome warlock was getting into a fit. It kind of reminded me when I wrestle with my little dog. When we wrestle, I sometimes stop, look down at him, and do nothing. After a minute he starts barking at me to get me wrestle him more :D .
