I'm in a dilemma.
I got a list of stuff im going to get during New Year....

I was thinking to get a DnD game for pc, and i arrived at neverwinter nights.

I played neverwinter nights ONE before, but i dont own it. Neverwinter nights ONE has many mods and modules that people created. I've seen superb ones and played only a few superbs ones....

When Neverwinter Nights 2 came out....i wanted to buy it but gamespot review said many bad stuff about it. AND. i've surfed the net to check for modules and mods, No many modules and mods can be found (maybe course nwn2 has a new system and stuff). Im afraid that i would regret buying NWN2.

NWN ONE seems to be fun...but i like the graphics in NWN2.

So...anyone have any advice for this dilema...?
Dont say to get both, i have already 3 games that im gonna buy...

DnD stuff for the computer doesn't get any better than Baldur's gate 2: Shadows of Amn. It may be a bit dated, but hell, it's probably the best RPG I've ever played.

BioWare sure knows how to make RPGs.

Gamespot review.

I just got NWN2 a month ago. The biggest problem I've had with the game is its steep requirements despite its graphics; even on the lowest settings, there are many occasions where my computer heavily slows down. There are also quite a handful of bugs and glitches, some of them caused by the game slowing down. For example, when I give an item away to someone and quickly close the inventory before the icon disappears, the icon remains there but does not actually exist, which can be visually frustrating when it happens a lot.

Artificial intelligence can be quite bad at times; since enemies will attack rangers and casters first no matter what (provided they all actually fight), which means being unable to get to them means they will wander around in one location for a very long time until the AI starts cooperating. The party members aren't that any better either; when you turn at least a little bit of AI, they will start bombing the crap out of enemy [iG]and[/i] the precious, fragile treasure chests. In the end, it's all so very better to micromanage all characters at once.

With so many classes, races, and literally hundreds of choices to make in character creation, there are some classes and races that are hugely unbalanced. For example, I personally think that all the long-range physical weapons are extremely weak in comparison to melee weapons, and with the fact that enemies will always attack ranged attackers first, it's almost mandatory to have a melee weapon. Casters are also extremely powerful, but they also die extremely quickly. In the end, fighters are almost always the one to do most damage.

Still, let's just say that this game is basically Baldur's Gate, with slightly less amount of side quests, but with more modding availability. Plus, there are all the memorable characters, items, and places from Baldur's ate and Neverwinter Nights 1. As a game, it does the best job in explaining the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

All in all, the game does worth it, if you're ready to face some minor bugs. Just remember that there are nothing that'll stop you from playing the game further at any point.

Rawr, sorcerer rules....time stop !!! spam meteor !!! w00t

but i surfed for NWN2 stuff...no more time stop...
but i can see that time stop being removed, it really ruins the fun when you play with others and you own people by timestopping and cast uber spells...

my friend used to flame me alot for using time stop and stealing all his loots and stuff

I feel otherwise. I admit that melee characters can take hits whatsoever, but its just a click feast. I have no trouble to fight melee characters....i face more challenge fighting rangers/magic users.

all the uber buff that you cast on yourself really absorb alot of physical damage.

Not to mention, melee characters generally have low Will....(AHHHH NOT PALADIN !!! KAAA RUUUUNNN)

of couse, all of the above is on NWN ONE perspective. I'm clueless about nwn2

NWN2 was a major let down. It had so much promise and failed.

They system requirements were through the roof considering they were higher than Oblivions and it STILL looked bad compared to Oblivion. Horrible coding causes it to run slow even on systems that should run it flawlessly and it has many bugs including some that will hamper game play. It has bugs where you can get stuck in an in between phase, a point where you are traveling - so it saves it - and drops you off where you are unable to finish a conversation- which is the only exit.

Even though BG2: Shadows of Amn is an older game- i highly recommend it over NWN2.

Oblivion is the fourth installment of the Elder Scrolls series, so it's IV, not VI.

Actually, it's a quite excellent game. You can just wander about and do what you want without even touching the main storyline.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is also pretty good, but the combat is far inferior to Olbivion's.

Yeah you really dont need to know anything about the other Elder Scrolls games to play Oblivion, and it is one of the best games to date. It has some of the best graphics, best combat, best "leveling" system and is a free roaming sand box type game. On top of all that you can modify the game a LOT. Everything from adding a mansion to a hilltop to making guards less superhuman when it comes to spotting a crime to increasing the number of monsters in the wild to adding the super awesome looking Mystic Elf race... a must in my opinion...

It's by far one of the best single player fantasy games ever. You can play the game several times totally differently if you choose to use a different weapon or style of play. You can go the whole game casting no magic at all, or play though it without using a bladed weapon, or with only magic. And as you do things that way your character grows in that way.

Wanna make money? You can kill bad guys and sell their equipment, harvest alchemy materials - brew em into potions and sell the potions, you can dive deep into the vast caves and ruins searching for treasure, or you can wait till nightfall, pick the lock on the jewelry store, sneak in and take all the valuables... stealing tends to be the quickest and easiest if you can lock pick and sneak.

It's a great game, and you shouldnt bother with the others- they arent nearly as good and it doesnt have a flowing storyline- some people talk about things from the other games- but it isnt important to your character.

The thing is, im looking for games that will last for a long time...RTS is suppose to be one but i really want to have at least 1 rpg game...(that is long lasting)

However, i realise that alot of rpgs i had, lasted for like 90 hours and thats it.
(ff8, BG, etc)

I really like games where people create mods, such as warcraft III, (dota is freaking awesome)
In case of nwn ONE, if you look at NWVAULT.com (http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/TopRated.php ... g=&w=&p=21)
<<ima hope posting external webbies is allowed.....if not, ima delete them, too excited to re-read the forum rules  >>

There's alot of mods that people create. So there's alot of different stories and such.

So Sage, i wonder if oblivion has such community? If so...i might consider oblivion.....since u made me kinda curious about it... :D
Furthermore, i want an up-to-date game....nwnONE is an old game...
i know that good games dont need to have good graphics, but ya know...its my ego...

I might be open to other DnD games such as oblivion.....any other suggestion/tips ?

Sorry and thank everyone for bearing ma dilemma.

/Ant

Sage is right about Oblivion. Plus with the fantastic mods the game has, you can stretch the game for literally weeks on end. The only place where the game falters is its models and dialog. If you can live with that, the sheer amount of things to do will keep you busy for a while.

The Brotherhood of Darkness is hardcore.

My bad, i think im gonna exclude oblivion...(thanks everyone for their views on oblivion)
Oblivion is not a DnD game with dice stuff and 1D4 thingy.
But i see how oblivion is such a good game, random events would happen in the world of oblivion even if that particular event is entirely irrelevant.

I've seen one sad video on youtube, where one woman caught stealing a loaf of bread and got killed by the guards....daggin thats so....argh *clenched fist*

So the question now is....

Is Neverwinter Nights 2 + exp worth the cash?

Maybe i'll get full version of nwnONE first....next time, after bioware complied all nwnTWO together just like nwnONE, i'm spent ma hard work money on it... :D

The money's definitely worth it. Especially including the expansion because the expansion fixes number of problems found in the original game. Rangers still seem too weak in multiplayer, though.
