Keith did say to trace that he would have to follow orders, regardless of whether he didnt like it..
I see a serious moral dilemma, as keuth does not want to be banished yet again..
As the saying says, "You can never go home again" - and what with the Templar and their tower, schemes of magic, and these dark orders from a former friend... I wonder if Keith will decide that this isnt the home he'd been dreaming of returning to. He's loyal to the idealized Bastins of his memory, and the reality is most likely NOT living up to his expectations...
All that being said, things are probably going to get VERY messy in just the Laura-Keith-Natani mix before Keith is able to make a decision, and I'm guessing that there will be harsh words exchanged and bad feelings spread about even before Keith is able to tell Natani what's going on. Frankly, I hope that Natani doesnt go TOO much into the denial/jealousy anger cliche, however much in-character it would be; call me crazy but I just feel like she should be a lot smarter and more experienced than that. Perhaps cue a moment's self-revelation where she realizes what an idiot she's being and just plain confronts Keith with her thoughts and misunderstandings/questions... preferably BEFORE she does something stupid (and perhaps to her mind, stereotypically female)?
Ways out of this that I see? (or at least a short list of them)
a) Fake Natani's death (this would probably fail; Bastins dont seem forensic pushovers)
b) Reveal Natani's gender and instead claim: "My target is a male; this isnt him!" (this could be messy but hilarious for readers)
c) Defy order and leave Natani alive (this could be good for Keith and Natani's feelings, but give him other problems)
d) Lady Nora deus ex machina - advanced 'illusion'/posing as Natani herself/general badassery (this could leave a lot of nasty loose ends and generally be a cheap way out)
One way or another, expect to see a bunch of Keith-introspection as he decides how to proceed.
