Found that website a few days ago: http://4parents.gov/index.html

You should take a look at the ad. So, what do you think (if you consider the fact that it was paid by government, with your money)?

There's 2 things in the ad that bug me:
1: They use children to say: ''Tell me that I want to wait.''
2: “Tell your kids you want them to wait ’til they’re married to have sex.”

The worlds going to pieces and they are wasting money with abstinence commercials?

Wouldn't it be more helpful to teach about safe sex instead of saying don't do it?

It is politics kinda, but probably would have fit better in the rant board.

Well, considering that this little venture probably costs very little, I'm not worried. That, and it's not like abstinence is a bad thing. Teenagers are stupid enough without running around acting on the hormones that seem to control their minds.

Well, I thought it was going to be some lame thing like having kids promise not to have sex till they're married and getting a ring or some bull like that but this website is actually a pretty good resource. There's certainly a lot more to sex than I had been told all of which were covered on that site. And hey, they don't say on there that if your child is gay then he's going to go to hell and burn for eternity and that God hates him. That's a good sign, right?

Hah, the commercial just came on TV.

Err, not really. In the last 10 years, american government have allowed $1 billion for abstinence only program.

Penn & Yeller Bullsh** show made an episode about that ($1 billion come from there). Take a look at it (3 parts on youtube):

It amazes me how these people can make a commercial and a website cost a billion dollars. Anyway, I don't disagree with the program itself but I do think that that is money that could be better spent.

Abstinence is not a bad thing if it's a choice (made when you are well informed about reality, not about some pseudo-science).

The problem is about the 'only' in the 'abstinence only' program. They don't give information to kids like how to use a condom and why it's important to use it, they just say <Don't do it>. So it's a total waste of money (and we're not talking about what could happen to these teens) and misinformation.

That and the there have been quite a few studies showing that abstinence-only programs have no effect besides draining cash.

*smiles*
Well, according to Bill Maher, there's one other effect.......
bill maher's book New Rules wrote:
Taking the pledge makes a teenage girl six times more likely to perform oral sex and four times more likely to allow anal sex.

There're a lot worse things than teenagers having sex--Namely, teenagers not having sex. You'll never hear someone say "That suicide bomber was having too much sex. Sex sex sex, nonstop. All that crazy arab ever had was sex, and look what happened". The theory of the puritans of the 21st century seems to be: The less kids know about sex the better. Because people who talk about pee-pees are potty-mouths. And so armed with limited knowledge and believing regular vaginal intercourse to be either immaculate or filthy dirty, these kids did with their pledge what everybody does with contracts: They found loopholes--two of them, to be exact. Is there any greater irony than the fact that the christian right actually got their precious little adolescent daughters to say to their freshly scrubbed boyfriends: "Please, I want to remain pure for my wedding night, so only in the butt. Then I'll blow you." Well, at least these kids are really think outside the box.
...Okay, if any of that was too insulting to anyone, then I humbly ask a mod to delete or censor the post.

That might actually make sense.
