Hey, if I accidentally compressed some game files, how would I undo that?

How exactly did you compress them? If they're in a zip file or similar, you can just re-extract them.

hmm shouldve been more specific...

In Part 1 step C, the compression of old files on the harddrive to save space... I was lazy and didn't read the part about not doing it to game files, so I compressed them all from the C: properties panel...yeah... stupid me... It has a noticeable effect on games... back to my question...how do I undo that if it is possible?

Did you use the 'Compress drive to save disk space' option? If so, you should just be able to uncheck that.

Well, no I used the disk cleanup button...it proceeded to say: compressing old files on drive C, took a little while, completed, and now when i run WoW, it isn't loading game terrains/pictures as fast as it normally would.

Try finding the folder(s) where the files are, right-clicking on them, and then clicking advanced. If 'Compress contents to save disk space' is checked, uncheck it and click okay, then okay again. When the 'Confirm Attribute Changes' dialog pops up, tell it to 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files'.

So, if it's not checked, I'm ok? Wonder what's causing the game to not load right then...

I went down the list of tweaks that Udedenkz provided and did the ones which I thought would be useful. Maybe I messed up one.

My guide gives no guarantees...
The only thing I can tell you is that I am using all of them and more.

Just find the folder of the game applications that you NTFS compressed, and uncheck it... (It should be showing as blue in Window Explorer)

BTW: Sry, I was really busy... again... so, I need to really revise the guide...

EDIT: Revised the Wording a Little, Fixed One Mistake, Added Some Minor Stuff, Added A part for BAT files but have not finished it

I didn't compress it that way though... i went to disk cleanup in the drive C: properties panel... which followed with a screen that said compressing old files...and the compress check box on the file isnt checked, and never was to begin with, yet the games images etc... still load incredibly slowly.

You are saying that they aren't compressed?

Apparently they are compressed, but windows doesn't give him the normal option to decompress them. I've searched google and found a lot of people asking this same question-and not getting any answers.

I have one other suggestion if you haven't already tried it though; try running disk cleanup again with that option unchecked. It might decompress everything.

So, I redid disk cleanup without the program files checked. I also redid the disks indexing service (undoing everything that might have had an effect on drive C)

Just copy the files in the folder to a new folder, delete the old one, and rename the new one as the old.

also: Severely off topic
requesting this be moved to a new thread.

That wouldn't decompress them. That would just move the compressed files around.

Good idea.
