I don't suppose there are any fellow Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine JROTC cadets lurking around here are there? This year marks my second term in AJROTC, and my first on our drill team. I've already given myself several minor injuries with the rifles, but it's enough fun for me to not care. :D

For anyone who doesn't know, JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. The best way I can describe it is that it's a citizenship and leadership class fostered by a given branch of the military, most often the Army. If you have a JROTC battalion at your school, go join it. Now. You won't regret it.

I used to go to something very similar here in the UK. It was the Air Training Corps; brilliant, lots of fun... pity it was filled to the brim with eejits that were more interested in getting into the pants of the female cadets. Lovely.
Got to play about with the No. 8 rifle (basically a cadet version of the Lee-Enfield) and the L98 (same as last time - cadet version of the SA80, 'cept single shot only). Flew a Viking glider, too - dang that was amazing!
Loved it while I was there. Definately need to go back.

Never even got to go parachuting...

Wow, that sounds like a lot more than what we do. Due to usual modern day paranoia our Rifle team doesn't get real guns anymore. xP

In fairness, we sometimes use pellet guns for certain 'in-house' squadron-vs-squandron shooting competitions. We mostly just learn gun care from the No. 8 rifles, and do occasional live fire target shooting at a nearby naval base (in this case, Faslane - now featuring real Scottish nuclear subs! >_<). The L98 rifles are a lot more uncommon, but we use the same base and target range as we do with the No. 8s. My God - the L96 is god-like... I heartily advise using one if you get the chance. None of yer M4 gaffe. :P
And the Viking glider... that was my favourite; the day was beautiful and clear (which is odd... Scotland, remember?) I could see Edinburgh, the Forth Rail bridge and Glasgow to the west.

One word: Epic.

Heh, sounds fun. Our rifle team always uses air guns as far as I know.

Going to be doing NROTC. The Coast Guard nees ROTC. :|
