The Law of Attraction is commonly associated with New Age and New Thought theories. It states people experience the corresponding manifestations of their predominant thoughts, feelings, words, and actions and that people therefore have direct control over reality and their lives through thought alone. A person's thoughts (conscious and unconscious), emotions, beliefs and actions are said to attract corresponding positive and negative experiences "through the resonance of their energetic vibration." The "law of attraction" states "you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny." Many proponents of the idea claim that with practice a person can use the law of attraction to change their lives. However, the idea has received intense criticism from multiple circles in the media, the scientific community, and even other areas of the New Age Movement.

I've never seen any basis in any of these theories. The if-you-can-think-about-it-hard-enough-it-will-come-true theories, I believe, have several flaws. If they were true, someone would have recreated the world by now in a way that fits their perception. Some benevolent soul would create world peace, or someone else would make themselves ruler of the world. And if all it does is change your perception of the world, then they'll just lock you up in the crazy house. Besides, if the Universe manifests abundance at a mere thought why is there so much poverty, starvation and death?

Besides, the law of attraction implies the law has a scientific foundation when science has not studied it, does not define it correctly according to New Thought Practitioners, and usurps the role of God.

If that were true, half the people in front of the Treasure Island Hotel would have dissappeared so I could see the pirate show, and my math homework would be nonexistent.

Thank you for saying that before I got a chance to ... and yeah Law of attraction my @$$, you could say that, being in the state of mind makes you more likely to see opportunities and take them, but otherwise nothing is going to happen. (please don't anyone tell me that they really believe it works) It has no scientific chance of being possible... someone just happened to focus on something so hard at one point, by chance happened to get it and they thought something mystical had occured XD.

Kind of like "Good things come to those who wait" But yeah complete and total BS.

I guess it does, but you still have to focus very hard on that one thing you want. I've never been really good at controlling my dreams, so taking the reigns of reality might be just a bit harder.

I know for sure it works in dreams, on occasion for me anyway. As for reality- whatever. it's one of those supposed rules with nice, easy escapes, kind of like the psychics who need all the critics out of the room before they do their tricks, supposedly because of their "negative energy" and in reality because they want a room full of people who want to believe what they're seeing. People are easier to fool that way. Similarly, if I try to get something I want and fail, you could just say I'm not concentrating hard enough, since no real threshold is set. Is there a measurment for how hard you're thinking? There might be -maybe something similar to a pain chart, where it's told by body language- but not to my knowledge.

Makes a good premise for a sci-fi novel though. :D

You all may be right but you have to admit you can find some people who do have an amazing amount of focus and can do very strange things with that focus. For example there was a martial arts guy who could "use his chi to knock someone out." This may seem very farfetched, but dozens of people have had him preform his arts on them and strangely enough when he punched in their direction from about 1-2 ft. away they blacked out and collapsed on the floor. Theres a video of it somewhere, im jsut to lazy to go find it =P. go check it out, it kinda cool.
