I'm sitting here with my brother's new Laptop, which is running Vista Premium, wondering why people are hating Vista? the only problem I see is that it has a few too many security features to go through but once you turn those down it works nicely. I keep hearing people complaining, now I'm curious why.

I feel the same way. I've used Vista and my dad uses it for work, and the only complaint I had was with the dumb UAC. Aside from that, I liked it.

I personaly don't mind the UAC. It's in most modern OS now adays. I used Ubuntu for a while, and it had really weird UAC stuff. OS X 10.4.9 has them as well.

My biggest issue isn't really Vista's fault, but the fact that nVidia doesn't really have a fully working set of drivers yet. Other than that, Vista's had very few bugs as far as a new os is concerned, and I'm running x64 smoothly.

I've heard that the system requirements are a lot higher for Vista than xp or 2k. I think I even saw a game somewhere which had higher minimum system requirements for computers running Vista. I haven't really checked it out myself but if this is true then there is no chance in hell I'm installing that thing on my already aging computer.

whats wrong with vista may not be visible to most. What I find most wrong with it is it goes beyond trying to be an Operating System to being a User Control System that just happens to also run your computer. Its full of ways to deliberately "spy" on you and collect personal data. that and I have yet to find anything that vista can do that XP can't. and with the systems vista requires any speed up from XP is barely noticeable to me. It's price isn't really justified and It's really not worth it to me. If you get a machine with vista on it I am not saying you should run out and by xp for it before its too late but it's really not worth paying for a "upgrade" to vista. That and there is no current free firewall that works for it except zone alarm(crapware of the highest degree) to my knowledge (comodo is in alpha).

What's wrong with Vista?

EVERYTHING!!!!

*Breathes*

...I don't care for it much. I can't run half of my games on the thing even with compatiability set. It's annoying as hell.

God, and I'm moving my copy of Photoshop over to the thing tomorrow. Can't wait to see what kind of messages I get then.

Would to like to install with a configuration for Windows Vista?

Can't say I've run into that Defender. I've installed A bunch of old Steam games, City of Heroes, Supreme Commander, and America's Army on a Vista machine and never had a problem. Hopefully those game manufacturers will get on the ball soon, but that's their problem not Vista's. :P

Sai rabbit: This is why no one has really convinced me that Vista is so bad. All I hear are vague jabs at it like "It's spying on you" or "it has holes". Show me something real and confirmed and I'll be convinced.

The main thing I dislike about Vista, is, for quick answer, Refer to CAD's comic about it :P.
For my long drawn out answer, shove rusty nails in your ears (Wooooo, Simon!)
I personally think that it's kind of stupid, the high end requirements it needs. Any speed I'm guessing gained from XP, Won't be noticed, as it will be very little. Not to mention I've heard that it's a pain to install games on Vista, and I am a Gamer.
Lesse...KoTOR, AA, GW, EQ, WOW, MOHAA, CIV4, B&W1 & 2, 1NSANE, Not to mention atleast 10 games, if not many more.
There's a reason I have a 160 GB External :P...(now if only the damned thing would start working again...It won't load...-.-)
Plus, Im told it takes 2GB of ram, just to get some of the fancy non XP features....
I'll take my XP thank you :P. Plus, I wouldnt doubt that it deliberately spies on you, if it does.

First the annoying messeges asking you to continue, although those can be disabled by running msconfig.

Second, the new aero desktop features slow down your FPS rates unless you disable them for the game you are running.

Third of all, Some applications will not function for you do not have the privilages of an administrator when you get Vista. You have to right click and select run as administrator.

I head that it is a problem installing custom drivers, I am not sure.

Programs that work on XP, don't have to work on Vista.

It is slower.

On the bright side, it is prettier when you turn on Aero.

It has a better auto-installation features then XP.

It is meant to be easier for the avarage idiot.

It has IE7, Media Player 10, and could run Halo 2.

Precisely! I personally think it's Microsoft's way of battling the Mac.
For instance, It's a sort of universal statement that Macs are better at Art and Pictures and such, while Windows....isn't. Windows takes a lot of know how to work right. I should know. My mom was always asking me for help on the XP -.-. Still does....
Vista, she probably wouldn't need as much help. It's meant to be easier to use. Not a gaming machine, in my opinion. More of a high powered version of a Mac :P.
BTW, The Mac VS PC ads....Apple is a bunch of idiots. EVERYTHING is a PC...So by Technicality, a Mac is still a PC, and a PC isn't a specific System. They just show him as being a Microsoft Windows in order to flame them...without actually publicly doing so. Kind of Ingenius, really.

How is Vista supposed to be easier for the average idiot?

I have to go down through (Exageration) fifty diffrient menu layers to adjust settings as opposed to one or two for XP.

Still having trouble using the folder options setting all of my folders to View Details.

Er, not really. My dad has been playing Supreme Commander for the past few months(which is a very resource intensive game) and Aero hasn't slowed it down at all.

Er, that's not new. There's always been things that a normal user can't do and must use 'Run as...' for, even in XP.

Depends on the computer.

They're probably not much worse than Supreme Commander. THat game is a real resource hog.
