So I'm curious about how many Harry Potter fans are about this forum. It doesn't strike me as a huge percentage of the population, but one never knows.

Anyway, as fair warning, my close friend called me and woke me up this morning (and she innocently claims to have forgotten about the three-hour time difference, ha!) to inform me that some people managed to get their hands on the seventh book and have posted (supposedly) legit spoilers all about the internet. She tells me her little sister ran into one on LiveJournal this morning and is now traumatized.
I've been going about the internet carefully on my own and I haven't seen anything about this anywhere else, or run into any spoilers, but better be safe than sorry, so Harry Potter fans, watch out for those pop-up ads!

Who's excited/dreading the seventh book? And who's like me and wants it to never come out because that means it's over?

hmm well, I am a Harry Potter fan.

I can't say I know what to expect from the seventh book, if it means the end of the series, then I still look forward to reading it but won't be particularly happy about the series ending.

There are a lot of false spoilers out there too - right now theres no way to tell if they are real or false since the book hasn't been officially released and so called "leaked copies" are often elaborate fakes.

Either way- an unconfirmed spoiler shouldnt stop you from reading the book anyways.

And I am a Harry Potter "Fan". It's really well written. Extremely easy to read (and i dont mean simple words- for the most part the whole book - in every book just flows so smoothly you never have to go back and re-read something).

It is also based in one of my favorite kind of worlds- our modern society, with magic. You throw together a modern world with fantasy magic. It opens a lot more doors than a fantasy world with magic or a modern world without magic.

Yes, I'm a fan. :-)

Not so much that I'd rush out on day-one to buy the book. I much prefer paperbacks. Although that means I'll have to wait. That's not a problem as I have so many books lined up to read, and although a fan of Harry Potter there's other books out there that are just as good.

No. I like conclusions. I don't like story that go on and on and on. Generally they get weaker and weaker and fizzle out, as the author has less and less ideas and enthusiasm. I'll will be sorely miffed if there's no proper conclusion though.

I'm a semi-fan. I enjoy the books, but thats about it. But I'm looking forward to the end. Do you know what happens to things that just don't end? They become crap and nobody likes them. Just take a look at Cher (though she was never good to begin with).

That's definitely how it's going to end. xD

I won't be rushing out to get the book or anything, but I'll try to read it either during my summer school time (doubt it), or during winter break. I hope this one is really good. I didn't really like the last two as much as the rest of the series.

I think people take the whole thing a little too seriously.
Of COURSE there will be spoilers. I never read any of the books and even I know that Dumbedore died and Sirius died.

If you wish to avoid spoilers, avoid the internet. As for me, I plan to wait until the ending is ruined for me and then read all the books in one long string to see if the hype was justified.

These spoilers are more annoying because the book hasn't even friggin' come out yet :-P Rowling has released several statements begging the people who somehow managed to get the book (which is under very high security) to please take down the spoilers.

After the book comes out, it's fair game, but before, it's just mean.

*just got eyes dilated and can't focus on the text on the screen and the world is so very bright, ow...*

To be honest, that is exactly what I feel about the books. The films are cool too, seeing the fifth this weekend. Though I know the ending. It will be funny to compare how I imagined it and how it is pictured in the movie~

The book I read will be in dutch though.

You known, one reason why I like to read the book before seeing the film is because that way the film cannot spoil the book. If I see the film first then the director's and actors' interpretations make too much an impression on me, and although certain scene are memorable the feeling and emotions are not as deep an complex as those I get reading the book. It's also a reason why I don't like to read a book in one session - it take time, I think, to mull over events that happen. I get significant enjoyment doing this mulling over, and over. Unfortunately, with the Harry Potter books I do find I can't put them down. Seeing the film after reading the book is fun, and I don't have to think so hard, just let it sort of wash over me - although I do always seem to spot differences that irritate.

I figured out that the fifth book was in 1992 from the video game. I forgot how though, something that Sirius mentioned and I did the math.

I like the series. In fact, I'm going to a party this midnight. I like those parties. PRIZES! Hehe.

I'll actually be on a mission trip in Nicaragua when the book comes out. Too bad, I was looking forward to reading it.

I've avoided spoilers thus far and I want to get my hands on a copy just so I can keep it that way. *glares menacingly around the room.*

In any case I do have a couple theories about the book.

1. Dumbeldore is not dead. I know they had that huge funeral and all, and ifit had been anyone else that had shot him with the death curse I'd be convinced. However, it was Snape that blasted Dumbeldore with that curse and one of the major themes of series is that despite all efforts to appear to the contrary Snape is actually one of the good guys. Even as he was taking off at the end of the last book he was informing Harry that he'd need to be better at silent spells.

2. The end of the book. My theory (well, one my friend came up with and I agree is a suitable end) Voldamort and Harry square off in a final dual of epic proportions. The two attempt to blast each other with the death curse simultaneously. This results in the same thing we saw in the fourth book with the magic linking together into a line of light that connects the two wands. They have a DBZesque power struggle and Harry manages to barely win and kill Voldamort. Instead of becoming a dark witch/wizard hunter he instead becomes the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts and the first to last more that one year at the job. (Reasoning: the Dumbeldor's Army stuff in the fith book was clearly meant to show us that Harry is a fantastic teacher.)

Aside from that I haven't really tried to speculate too hard as to what will be happening in the last book. I did that with the 4th book and was rather disappointed.

on page 200 of roughly 600, so far, she's pushing the theory of killing off characters... I still want to see the 5th movie. (been in England and wasn't able to go to the theaters)
