For some reason when i try to start up CoV half way my computer will shut down. After that it won't start up till around about the next day or so.

I need to know if this is to do with my RAM being buggered or not.

Any ideas?

Uh- You mean the computer won't start up for another 24 hours? Because that sound's like a power supply problem.

But if you think its the memory-- how much do you have and how much does it SAY you have?

If you try putting in more than 1 GB and it still says that you only have 1GB then it's one of two things: One of the sticks is bad or 1 GB is your motherboard's limit. Either way, 1GB should be plenty for CoV. Which leads me to agree with Sage, that it's probably something to do with your power supply.

Or, it could be a motherboard error. ATX power-supply's are switched on and off through the motherboard, and if something was screwed up, it might not turn on the power-supply. First of all, make sure that your ram is in properly, and nothing is loose on your motherboard. You could have a lose connector, and when your computer tries to access a certain bit of memory, it cannot and crashes. Also after it crashed, have you tried simply unplugging the computer for like 5 mins? That would make sure all capacitors are drained, and all memory is emptied.

I have seen all sorts of problems with motherboards not doing what they are supposed to - they are the largest component in your computer, and there are so many things that can go wrong. Also, could you post a list of your computer spec's? If you need it here is a copy of EVEREST Home edition. Everest will give you all the info you need(and lots more you dont!).

Of course, it could simply be your power-supply overloading, but it would probly start up again in 5 mins or less if that was your problem.

If i can get my computer to run for about 10mins ill find you out the specs.

Also I updated the Graphics card this year, this made me think "because my computers not to new on the parts could it be that its using the power till it can't take it then it shuts down...

But why would it start doing it now when i updated my graphics card in January?

Well if this is the first time you have played CoV on your computer and it is just now doing this-- is CoV the most graphic intense game you have? If so perhaps when you start it up the new video card pulls more power than the power supply can handle -- and poof.

I've been playing CoV for the past 6 months. Also its nows just shutting down at random. Something in my computer just decided to give up and die.

All i need to find out now if its my motherboard or my power supply.

Im going to have to wait untill the weekend, my grandads coming round and hes alot more skilled with computers then me.

From what I'm hearing...there's a possibility the problem is the fan/processor overheating...I had an overheating problem 2 years ago...my fan wasn't cooling my processor enough...and it would make my pc close and not restart for several hours.

If that is the problem...what I did was make sure the the fan was clean as well for anywhere the air comes out from the pc...also check to see if the processor is actually getting cooled by the fan.

If not...I'll have to agree w/ the power supply being the problem...because that sounds very logical in your type of situation.

Belive me it is NOT a ram issue. any ram issues will be noted when the system BIOS is running, eg (The Black Boot Screen) it will normaly give you a couple of good beeps to let you know that somthing isnt right.

You say that your computer runs for a while then turns off and refuses to turn on again... Try looking at your CPU, chances are it is overheating and shutting down to protect it. thus you are unable to restart for some while because it has to cool down. So make sure that you make sure that your CPU Cooler is working.

Hope this helps...

^ Since the original issue, and an answer exactly the same as yours, are both nearly 10 months old...yeah...it's quite likely that they have either solved the problem or set their computer on fire from frustration...
