There are dozens of MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) out there. But which one is the greatest? Well, I leave that up to you to decide. It the one you don't favor does not appear on the list, give a brief explination as to why you enjoy it so much.

I've only ever played one MMO, and it's Furcadia. I think I'd like guild wars if I'd get fifty bucks together and buy it, but meh. Furc rules!

I tried Furcadia once, and found it immensely boring. o_O

My favorite is City of Heroes/Villains, but that's the only MMO I've ever played in any depth other than Maplestory, so it doesn't have much competition. :P

Honestly- They all suck. They all lack the key to having a successful MMORPG experience that everyone can enjoy. The best one was one of the oldest - and you dont even have it on here. Ultima Online- one of the first MMORPG games that many still play today- why? Because it did what most still cant - but now its flaws are being out of date.

Each game listed here has several fatal flaws that make them not worth playing. Some are fun for a short time- some you might be able to play on for several months- in the end you will probably realize just how much time you had wasted on the crap and wish that you could just play a game like Oblivion online - thats what they should strive for - amazing graphics, very detailed character creation. Exciting combat and lots of adventure.

If you want a list of flaws I'll give you some from the games i have played the most later...

I like CoH's character creation. It's very fun just to screw around with. :D And I'm pretty sure the graphics are okay, I haven't seen them much except on high performance so I don't know if they can be as super detailed as some. :3 Have you played either CoH or CoV?

personaly i play runescape, and in some respects its better than most others. for one, it doesnt strive to have the best graphics ever, and will run on most computers, even old ones. its fully online, java based, which means it doesn't require downloading(it does cache its files, but even a full cache of everything is only about 20 megs...)

its filled with cool humor, and other stuff.

the main downside is the number of idiots and beggars playing it.

speaking of ultima online, there are lots of uo 'shards' out there, free to play  iil try to play one sooner or later...

Every MMORPG had it's benefits(exceptions exist!), so i can't say which is best. But i'm kinda into Ragnarok right now so i'll pick that one.

I never thought it'd happen. I never thought it possible. But, for the first time and quite possibly the last - I whole-heartedly agree with what Sage just said, and that is scary.
I've yet to play an MMORPG in this day and age that relies on something else besides the tedium of grinding and dungeon raiding. Which is basically the plastic and glue of MMOs today. Frankly, it bores me into a coma. It doesn't help that World of Warcraft is about as welcoming and user friendly as a malignant tumour, and Final Fantasy XI is the most dull, lifeless and depressing piece of multi-player gaming I've ever been subject to. They all seem to follow a similar path; and they all seem deterimed to stay glued to that path. As Sage said, I want to play a game like Oblivion online. One massive world - free to explore with you and your friends. Discovering new places and accidentally stumbling into quests while your at it. Y'know - a sense of adventure. Satisfaction. Fun. Isn't that what MMOs are suppose to achieve?

I mean, what's the big deal about level 60 anyway? :?:

Because for most people it's all one giant pissing contest about who has the highest level. :P

There is my long winded rant on what MMORPGs should strive for rather than what they are now.

We know it is possible - we know it is hard - but if you add the addictive nature of these games with the gameplay, graphics and story found in Oblivion and Baldurs Gate- you have a winning combination - and practically a money maker.

A key thing to this would be a world that keeps moving - if you join at the begining- you help form what it becomes if you choose to rather than the same thing happening over and over again. Really how many skulls and capes does that NPC need? Apparently 2 million since thats how many players complete the darn quest...

Can't wait for the technological adavances in gaming in 10-30 years... true virtual reality. A character you fully control with your limbs, blink when you do.

Absolute true virtual reality where you create your own speicies, look, face. Power. Infinite Leveling. Infinite Weapon’s, clothing, everthing. Fight in space, ground, air, Parallel realities. Like a true dream.

It'd feel weird to get punched in the face and not feel anything though. And how the heck do you move in the game without running into a wall in the real world. Heh heh, BAM!

On level 60 you realize you've just lost a few weeks or months which you'll never get back. You realize how much time you've just wasted on mining, grinding, LFM, traveling from A to B and doing things which are just not fun at all. Or if you don't you'll probably get sucked into some dungeon raid guild where a large portion of your life withers away. Thankfully I never experienced the latter.

Sage has done it again!
Good point, I alway hit my llies when I get into a big battle, that's how I got thrown out of the mages guild. But, then your being attacked and your enemies can swing through their allies and only hit you.

A good MMORPG is hard to come by, and with many of the good ones you must pay. if your trying to find a free one you must swin through the ocean of watered down Runescape ripoffs and other crap.

With many MMORPGs that I've played I either like, play for long hours for months, but one day, my interest in it is gone.

Or the ones that look nice, you download it, play for three seconds, and uninstall it...

Huxley may make for a good MMORPG, because of it war sized battles.
It reminds me of Mount&Blade. it's not online though, but you do have large battles wiether it be you and some farmers, or you and your trained knights on horseback. You can get it online, but it's still in Beta, it keeps getting looked over again and again, updated every so often. You can download the full game, but in reality its the demo, because you need to buy a serial key to go past lvl 5 i think.

Uhh... I think games wouldn't have the game 'feeling' anymore. And how are you going to move around in game without leaving the machine-whatever-it-is.

Oh, and don't mention the costs thosedays, if something new is now $700.
