Anyone know the symbol for a root in BASIC? Just wondering. I sometimes type up my math homework and this has become a problem since we're now working with roots. I guess I could just put x^1/2 or something like that, but I wanna know if there's one for the actual root sign. And how you would make it the cube root/4th root etc.

Not sure if this is actually a tech question, really just a math one. If this needs to be in a different board I'll gladly move it.

Thanks in advance,
~(\/)(~

If by BASIC you are referring to QBASIC or Visual BAsic, The square root is sqr(). I really don't know about the other roots though. Hope this helps.

do the parenthesis stay to the right of the affected number like sqr()2 or is it like sqr(2)?

Here's an example if you still don't understand :

Sqr - Returns the square root of the number argument. (eg x=sqr(4) would yield x=2)

Alright, next question, what about higher roots, like cube root, fourth root, fifth root etc.?
