I heard a nast rumor today that the U. S. military will be re-instating the draft sometime in 2008. I'm hoping that he's mistaken, but if it's true, I'm totally moving to Australia. They don't have a draft, do they?

Doesn't Bush's term run out next year? Which would make this rumor only true if the next guy says so....which is unlikely since most Americans are tired of the war...I think.

Just move north to Canada! We don't have draft/conscription (not since WW2 anyway)

Funny thing about that actually.....in WW1 people came here to avoid getting caught. In WW2 they came here to enlist.

It's doubtful. Word is that the Army is dreadfully understaffed, however my brother tells me that the Air Force is laying off thousands of officers because of surplus, so I don't think they're in great need. Also, if this does come about, I'm building a house five feet away from the Canadian border on the Canadian side, and coming back the day the draft ends. :P

If there is a draft, the US would haemorrhage all their best and brightest, leaving only those with a romanticized view of warfare. My spare bed is already overbooked if a draft does come into effect. Besides, apparently a few people serving in the American military crossed the border to Canada when Afghanistan and Iraq sparked up. If those that joined the military themselves would cross the border rather than face war - and I don't blame them in the least - imagine what would happen if you try to round random people up and send them off to war.

But I don't see a reinstated draft being very likely. It's probably a false rumour made by anti-Bush political peoples. Not that he wouldn't try it, but his handlers are probably aware that it'd be an absolute disaster.

His handlers? He is one of the handlers. Him and Clinton and Osamma! They were in it together! They planned 9/11! Why else would we go after Osamma only after he pulled off the best planned out attack on U. S. soil in American history? Clinton should've gone after him back in the 90s, Bush should have gone after him emidiatly, nothing was done till after 9/11. Humans, apparently, are, by their very nature, an undiserving species. And despite all my anti-Bush rantings, I'm a good patriot. As Mark Twain said, "Patriotism is loyalty to your country no matter what, and loyalty to your government when they diserve it." My favorite Mark Twain quote.

As Oscar Wilde said, patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.

And by handlers, I meant all of his assistants that feed him his lines, write his scripts and stops him from choking on terrorist pretzels.

As for the rest of it... I'm not going to respond to it, because I'm not sure if you're pulling the piss or not.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pulling the piss", but I'm quite serious.

Yeah its totally true. So hurry up and move - dodge the draft! Doooo ittt!!! Traitor!

You would have to be an idiot to believe this and be unable to find anything to support it or a source for the information.

They'd never get away with reinstating the draft so it doesn't really matter.

Means making a playful joke at someone else's expense.

If you were serious... still not going to touch it. If I do next thing you know John F Kennedy will be putting fluoride in the drinking water to brainwash the population for takeover by Illuminati or somesuch...

I take great offense at that comment. Dozens of people saw him die. He was one of the greatest men in american history. And the Illuminati were not satanists and devil worshippers. Do you even know what their name means? Look up Buddha. Same meaning. Buddha=enlightened one. Illuminati=enlightened ones. The Illuminati were just another minority, oppressed by the ppl in charge at the time for their conflicting beliefs.

...

Uh...

...

My point was that you can't really fight a conspiracy theory. Try to explain why you think it's wrong and theorists tend to jump out of the woodwork screaming that you're thinking what they want you to think, and then tie the theory in question in with every conspiracy theory they've ever had or heard. I just took the first three common subjects I could think of - JFK, fluoride and the Illuminati.

And how in the nine hells did you extract an accusation of Satanism from my brief reference to the Illuminati, anyway?

As my wrestling coach said when asked about uniforms, that's a good question. Course, I had just eaten at mcdonalds, and that makes everyone say and do stupid things. For now though, I'm tired, I've barely gotten three hours of sleep in the past week from pain from wrestling practice, I'm going to sleep.

Im not against a draft- I am fully for supporting my country. however, there are other opritunities within the US forces- cooking, medical, research, prople who never have to use a gun. While i would not support a draft, I dont think I'd be moving out of my home country.
