This would be the worst death in my eyes. These tend to leave you with one of two endings. Either your soul is bound to the area you died both in the past and present [Desert Raiders], or you'll cease to exist entirely as the individual you are [everything else] in history, mind, etc.

And of course we wish to be remembered. Look at King Tut, a man over 3,000 years old that people can still recognize by name. That's immortality right there.
