You know the one...

http://dogs.about.com/b/2008/08/19/beloved-dog-dies-while-owner-held-by-police.htm

I can't believe this hasn't been made into a thread yet. I'm not one to gossip about the news, but come on, what an @$$...

Oh, and i this HAS been mentioned, I admit fail.

The title of this thread is misleading.

"Doggy cop guy" does not sound like that article. I didn't want to be saddened, darn it.

True. I didn't know what to expect when I opened it. The unexpected, I guess. And I got it, sadly...

So they were speeding at (allegedly) 100 mph for a dog? Thus endangering countless human lives to save a poodle? I hardly have any sympathy.

Sorry about the title, I couldn't think of anything else with 3 words or less at the time.

I guarantee, you'd have done the same thing.

That was crule of the cop but i think the driver was at fault too. He could have done the speed limit and gotten there only a couple of minuets later. The cop on the other hand could have escorted the driver to the vet and THEN written up the ticket. I KINDA know what its like....broke a window...sliced my arm up bad....my dad was doing nearly 70 in a 25 to get me to the ER. XD that was a weard day. and the annoying thing was...it was the last week of 8th grade....i go to graduation with my arm in stitches.

Dang... losing a pet like that is like losing family... I should know..

I've lost a bunny, my grandparent's dog which I grew up with, a hedgehog..

*sigh* It's things like these that make me sick. Most people would rather save family. I'm so sad right now.

Kinda a difficult situation, I can understand the guy speeding to get his dog taken care of, and I can see why he wouldn't have wanted to stop for the officers feeling that every second counted. The police officers made a few comments that weren't to code, and would be considered insensitive and cruel to some.

Though from the officers point of view, the man was speeding at a very high rate and refused to pull over for multiple cruisers to my understanding. The officers had a right to be angry from what they were able to understand of the situation. They let the guy off without so much as a ticket, he could have been facing very severe charges, though I'm not sure whether to view this as an act of compassion or as an act of "Oops, I think we [censored] up.".

High tension situation, both sides made mistakes, I can understand it from both sides. Though I think the major problem was the comments the officers made.

I guarantee, I wouldn't. A dog's life doesn't trump that of my own or another human's, and in doing that speed on the highway he was not only endangering himself but everyone else near him on the road.

I would have done the same thing for any dog except for a poodle. Poodles creep me out. But it really sucks to lose a pet, and I should know. I've had a dog, three fish, three guinea pigs, a frog, and ten walking sticks die on me. Thankfully, I was very young for most of these animal's deaths, and can barely remember the animals themselves.
