I know what your thinking, Heck =( must have had at least a dozen rants on the call of duty franchise, and now he's doing something different...shocking to say the least.

Anyway, back to the point at hand, over the last few years I have seen a plethora of FPS'es come out, and most of them all claimed to be the "halo killer", I don't want any more FPS'es, they have made so many as of recent that they all seem the same, boring and has already been done, with the exception of Cod4 every other FPS that has come out this year has been just plain DONE. Now, I know what some people are thinking, what about halo 3, in my opinion halo 3 was halo 2 with a gravity hammer, changed controls and a nerfed shotgun, other than that, same game. So, what does this seemingly unappeasable person want you ask?

Simple, i want adventure games. I recently played a game i was always afraid to play because i frankly thought it would be crap, psychonauts, and it turned out to be my second most favorite game EVER. Now, I have spent a little while in the gaming forum, and i must say I have spent most of those posts talking about FPS'es, however after going back and playing that, and then playing Penny Arcade Adventures, i feel as though i am coming home.

I didn't even like FPS'es until a couple of years ago, and then i was obsessed, completly and utterly obsessed, however with that obsession came the realization that almost every fps that came out was exactly the same, and soon i noticed patterns, like how every fps that came out was always the same, and everyone got all exited each month at the supposed new "halo killer". Some of the people who know me dearly will deny i even said this if i wasn't the one to tell them, but in all honesty Why the hell did every one choose HALO. The first game was good, it was fun, different, had a decent sci-fi story..AND ZOMBIES, and when 2 came out, everyone got exited, and the multiplayer was "better" (more like other multiplayer games) than ever, but to me, the first one was always the best.

Heck, ask me any day, i would gladly make a public announcement saying that i PREFER the half life games to the halo games, better story, better gameplay, better CHARACTERS. Out of every game I have ever played i think the Halo series is the least deserving of anything.

So why, why are so many people obsessed with making a game better than it, its like it's been set as the new goal, and it has made almost every company make more and more FPS'es, when there are so many other GREAT genre's. Now, im not a fan of RTS'es that much, but Dawn of War has swept me away, and the only thing good about halo is playin online with friends as a TIME KILLER. However this is not a halo rant, so back on topic.

People haven't stopped making games of other genre's but all the games that have come out in those genre's are suffering and only a few have actually risen to the top. Any person who's been a player for a year could tell you ten FPS'es and maybe three adventure games, and its taken me a while, but what has taken everyone else so long, you do get good games, i am thankful for bioshock, condemned, and cod4, but resistance, haze, killzone, all of which okay games, but not games that NEEDED to be made, not games that were worth even ONE good adventure game. If you haven't played Penny Arcade Adventures i highly encourage it, even if you aren't a fan of the comic, as it is completely random, and kooky fun, but anyone it seems today can make an FPS, anyone can walk into a shop and pick up something that they never even heard of.

I am not saying that the FPS'es need to stop being made, just maybe have companies make something else, instead of having halo killers why don't we have psychonauts killers, or Beyond Good and Evil killers. So far good adventure, and heck, good FPS'es are small blue spots in a sea of [censored].

Or at least, thats my opinion,

And yes, its like 3:10 hear, so if i said anything that doesn't make sense, i apologize....the bunny is wearing a tophat and a monocle, he says hello.

I like being involved with my main form of entertainment besides lost.
EDIT; i lost the mean part, you don't deserve that, but i mean, come on i do rant about games, no need to comment about that, and just going into a topic and saying you don't care is kinda rude, I know im not one to talk, but i apologized so i realized what i did wrong, and i don't think that was very nice of you.

Doesn't need another game to do the deed for it.

Thats what any sane person would say.
I don't notice monotony much in FPS, maybe its because I stick to valve's shooters (Get team fortress 2), I never bought Halo 3 and I like to avoid playing it whenever possible. Not that I haven't played it, I've played it way more than enough, like, every time my friends come over, they bring it... There ARE a lot of diverse FPS games out there, but you can't play a bunch of samey ones a lot in a row (pretty much avoid 360 FPS games). With games like TF2, Gmod, Half life 2, Bioshock, and Breakdown out there's plenty of variety. And don't forget coming games like Mirror's edge.

You want adventure games? That can be a really wide category. Point and click, platformer, exploring games, etc. If you haven't played them, get Phoenix wright and The World Ends With You on the DS.

Its like 6:30 AM here, so if that makes even less sense than your post, =(, I apologize. I'm going to sleep now.

I wasn't being rude. Sheesh.

I stated that I don't play FPS's. That means I don't really own any that I play often. I play a few rounds of CoD or Halo when I go over to a friend's. But it does annoy me that that's all we'll do.

I have only a few friends who play video games, and only one of them cares about anything outside FPS's. It gets annoying. >_> I suck at FPS's, and every time I end up playing another one it makes me that much more happy to rush home and play a game I don't die every 20 seconds.

But if FPS's are makin' the money, by all means let them go ahead and keep making them. Doesn't mean other genres will die out. Life goes on, new games are made. If a year or two goes by without a single sign of something in that broad adventure genre or otherwise, then you can start an FPS boycott or something.

Or learn to play the popular stuff and enjoy it like the rest of the market.

Popular stuff is what stays in the running. Look at Nintendo; they've got all that casual gaming stuff going because it's popular. Think that's going to stop any time soon? I've seen a lot of people talking about wanting Wii music, and that hardly seems like a "game" at all.

I don't care if a game is good or not, so long as I have fun with it. People are telling me all the time about certain games that suck, and I keep hidden the fact that I liked them. I don't care about the thousands of new uprisings in a single genre. If a game looks like fun, I pick it up. This is why I got Disgaia. Normally I don't play RPGs either, but I've had a lot of fun with this one.

Everyone has at least one friend who's like "HALO! LETS PLAY HALO! HALO NOW! HALO REINVENTED FPS! HALO IS AMAZING!" There is also a friend who is a step closer than everyone else to punching him in the face.

I FORGOT LEFT 4 DEAD IN MY ABOVE POST, DANG IT.

I think companys should take moment and look at what capcom is doing with megaman 9,We need more of those.

I never got into FPS games that try to blend in RPG or other adventure gaming elements. Adventures tend to try to have really great storylines, and are usually heavily judged by how great the writing is --thus adventure gaming-- and I don't think there needs to be a revolution in gameplay. Some people say games like Portal revolutionized FPS gaming, but no, that's a PUZZLE game which happens to be in a first person perspective.

FPS games need to stop worrying about everything else and just focus on the gameplay itself. Don't try to add anything completely new, or mix things up. Have you noticed that all the great new games we have are mostly improvements over old things that worked? Games that just put you in the shoes of your character right away and let you blaze around everywhere after nothing but a short introduction. It works.

Well, i don't think halo is a BAD game, and the storyline is...interesting, but honestly i can think of a lot of better games, and halo just kinda got lucky, i think its because it is one of the better CONSOLE ( i just accidentally typed conslol, wouldn't that be an awesome console XP) fps'es, but as far as PC fps'es go, its pretty adequate.

hmm,i should check out the new megaman game, and yes Bioshock was really awesome, i believe i mentioned that.

Well, online is mostly bogged with idiots, but if you have the PC version and get to browse through servers it's pretty decent, because you'll find some servers that are often popular enough to play full of people who are nice, not nearly as many as there are server's full of idiots, and you do get the occasional idiot on those server's, but there are enough that have regulars that are all nice, all the cool cod4 players online for PC tend to circulate the same server's and you end up playing against cool, and intelligent people. Xbox version however...

For most people, the biggest problem with FPS games is the FPS and fps.
