Say you have a person who is spliced with an animal, if there is the same level of intelligence, Would you support Chimera Rights?

Examples: The right to personhood
The right to freedom.
The right to have a family.
and so on and so forth.
(I.E. A Chimera would be a Furry in Real Life. (Flora)

Hell yes! Of course getting there will be a long, arduous, and dangerous (Stupid human rights laws. It's limiting our science!) journey but dammit we'll get there!

As Butterball so bluntly stated, yes, I would/will deffinately support. I would go on a long winded speech if I could find the words, but I would/will deffinately support.

IMHO: no Sapient being should be denied such basic rights.

although due to wording of the constitution, the acquiring these rights would be a tough battle, "Human rights" would be the corner stone of all arguments, one side they are not human, the other they are Sapient to the same extent as humans are and if the term chimera is taken literally than they are at least part human and should be treated as no less.

If you look at it, how does humanity define itself, ( read separate ourselves from an animal classification) other than out intelligence, not just sentience, as sentience is expressed in many of what we classify as animals, this is not our defining trait. By humanities own logic we define ourselves by out intellect, not our specie to be exact. sadly despite this, many of us do not actually follow such logic with is what has lead us though so many of our past trials, our aptly named in-humanities.

lets not even start on the religion part.....

(and on a more comical note, saying no to something that can kill you so easily is not a good idea... )

I'd think of it this way:

f it can do most or many of the following it is comparative to humans in my ideology,

Think abstract thoughts,
Ask a question or question something,
Learn or understand abstract subjects like speech, time or otherwise.
If the outcome is based on human DNA it should be able to do all that and more though the research would likely occur as an attempt to create a better soldier or human.

If they showed any signs of hostility first, or all went on crazy killing spree's that'd be different, but i think we kinda as a race already went through this.

I feel something similar was discussed a while back. It was different, but I've got the same impression for some reason.

Anyway, I would support.

...is there supposed to be a moral dillema here? 'cause i'm not seeing it. The only thing this could possibly be useful for is someone deciding the general level of tolerance in case of sudden cover-up failure, in which case a board for a furry webcomic is going to be biased towards acceptance.

I really, really doubt you're ever going to need this information. Still, I have plans, though...you never know.

Oh, I just had to put this up.

.....And yeah, I think it goes without saying that I'd support the complete and equal rights of any sentient species.

It would take a true jackass to be against the rights of chimeras. Considering what forum this is, I feel safe in saying most people here would say the same thing.

[john wayne voice]You wanna say that again, pilgrim?[/john wayne voice]
But seriously though, who here wouldn't support freedom for all sentient species?

It's hard for me to word. I would support them, but not give them support beyond a certain level for a deal of time until they proved trustworthy.

Also, in before implied genocide / enslavement of humanity by 'superior' Chimeras, fethstorm from even hinting at such a debate, the humanity debates, etc.
