Flesh? XD Come on, we're not *that* bad! Alrighty, I suppose I'll be the guinea pig?
Name: Jeffery "Rowan" Amadeus
Age: 24
Alliance: Good
Skills/Powers: Rowan has been somewhat of a closet shapeshifter for the better part of his childhood and leading straight into adulthood. He has since learned that physical advantages that he might have in any given form are severely stunted if he is malnourished or generally ill, like any other person. Any "powers" a shape may give him are not affected by the forces that allow him to go through shifts. If he is weak, he is weak in all forms.
When he isn't experimenting with the supernatural side of himself, he works as an artisan blacksmith.
Appearance: (when unshifted) Rowan stands just shy of six and a half feet tall. His hair is black, and always tied together behind his neck by a loop of twine. His choice of occupation and recreation keep him physically fit, though not ridiculously muscular. He is lean by any definition. He wears whatever he is able to afford.
History: Rowan was born in Navarre, a small state on the border of modern-day France and Spain, by the name of Jeffery Amadeus. He was raised into wealthy society by the good graces of the Amadeus family name, and received a proper education in etiquette, recent histories, and spoken Latin. At age twelve, Rowan shapeshifted for the first time.
A peddler had been showing Rowan a Burmese python that his father had gotten imported. With him, his parents, and his older brother gathered around to see the exotic creature, Rowan had taken to mimicking the snake's way of testing the air. His older brother had been the first to notice the shock of scales creeping out form under Rowan's cheek. It had also been Rowan's last day in the Amadeus household.
He was sent to a reform school in England the next morning, at his father's insistence that he had been afflicted with some sort of demon. He spent three years at the "school," each of which carried their own form of punishment for his latent abilities. Exorcisms fell to other various methods aimed at releasing whatever evil was inside of him. He was whipped, beaten, and burned all in the name of purification. Throughout each torment, Rowan learned to use his abilities to cover his scars. His captivity offered him a reason to practice, rather than find personal sanctity.
After three years, he had had enough. News of his escape spread quickly, following him all the way to southern England where he made a new home for himself in a small port town called Dover. He renamed himself simply, "Rowan," a name that simply meant "one who wards off evil spirits." He liked the irony.
(I left details of the whole "reform school" and escape unfinished, in case that's something you'd like to fill in on your own.)
Personality: Rowan has long since forgiven his family for what they had done, and harbored only resentment for those who abused him in the past. He's quiet, rarely speaking to anyone whom he either doesn't trust or who doesn't have something to hang over his head. He has a habit of coming off as insulting to those who adhere to local customs, and has inspired several spook stories among the people of Dover of monsters that inhabit the woods.
Likes: Rowan has since found that he excels in hunting when shifted, and has become something of a good cook when limited to ingredients growing from the ground. When he isn't working, or hunting for food, he finds entertainment in following some of Dover's reputed huntsman while shifted. Stories have erupted among hunting parties of wolves in the woods that toy with anyone who dared make camp. Some even claimed to have woken up with traces of jet-black fur on their clothes.
Dislikes: People in general. Rowan has never pursued relationships with others because of his innate ability to find flaws in anyone he has shown interest in. His unending mistrust of anyone who has tried to get close to him has left many possible friendships to waste away. He also finds any conversation that brings up his old name, Jeffery, back from the grave to be intolerable. Given the folklore-driven world he lives in, it's hard to get away from legends.
There you go! You're more than welcome to do what you like with any of this, and feel free to fill in the gaps that I've left if the story ever demands it. I didn't want to write you into any corners, so this should be basic enough for you to start off sprinting.
Question, though: I'm not sure where you plan on having the story take place, so I just randomly selected Dover, England as Rowan's residence. You can change it if you like - no real thought went into Dover - so I'm hoping no one feels pressured into saying "Okay, I guess my guys lives there
too."
