I haven't been able to find the source webpage for this but I was sent this earlier today:

Quote:
TEXAS (CNN) -- In light of recent terrorist attacks, the Department of Homeland Security has issued a ban on all sales and distribution of the 1997 hit video game, Final Fantasy VII

The game involves the main character, Cloud Strife, planting bombs in power plants in a heavily populated city. The protagonist works with the terrorist group "Avalanche" bombing locations throughout the beginning of the game.

The decision was made only hours after the bombing of a chemical plant in Fort Worth, Texas. The FBI is still hot on the trails of the culprit, going by the hacker alias "frootloops". An FBI spokesperson told CNN at the time that investigators have already seized equipment in the culprits house, but frootloops was nowhere to be found. "Upon confiscation of the equipment, we found a large collection of child pornography on the culprits hard drive." said the FBI spokesperson.

President Bush has already indicated he's opposed to Square-Enix role playing games. "Mario doesn't blow up power plants" Bush said on thursday. Mario was unavailible for comment.

Parenting groups are also up in arms against the game. "These 'role playing games' are teaching our children to use magic and summon demons, they're destroying our childrens future and making them worship satan. We can't allow this to continue." Various forms of Magic have been a staple of every game in the Final Fantasy series dating back to Final Fantasy released in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. "It's almost as bad as Harry Potter!" A parent who wishes to remain anonymous said.

Sen. Hillary Clinton also is highly opposed to the game.

"First Grand Theft Auto, and now this. I'm starting to think we should just ban all video games. Final Fantasy VII is an awful game, and should have never been created in the first place. I mean, look at the size of Tifa's breasts! They're destroying our childrens future. The problem of explicit video games is spiraling out of control." Clinton wrote in a letter to the head of the Federal Trade Commission. Tifa's breasts were unavailible for comment.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp., Best Buy Co. and Circuit City Stores Inc. have pulled the game from their shelves following the recent ban.

Can anyone verify this?

This is the first I've heard of this so I cannot verify it, but... THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!! Ban all video games, how insane can they get, and I think it said somethign about they dislike squaresoft games altogether? Square makes some fo the best RPGs!! they better not make squaresoft not bring games to america anymore, and this better not mean no FFVII Advent Children... this is not the way I like to start my day...

I, personally, think that those people are skrewed up in the head. I really never was a fan of Bush or Clinton and I happen to find that the FFVII game is actually quite fun. Other roleplaying games are quite fun and I don't really see a reason to ban them, or even ban other video games. The Grand Theft auto was a reason tobe shocked and its rating should have been moved up. But this? This is just the government wanting to control.

In otherwords, without screaming and such, I think this is total bull s*** and think those people ought to be slapped in the face. -__- Including the parent who made the comment about the Harry Potter books.

No way this is true. I can tell this by what was quoted by Hilary Clinton. Also the part of Tifa's breast unable to comment.

It's actually a clever joke, but far from convincing. In due time, yes, there will be issues with people wanting to ban videogames thanks to Jack Thompson and his rantings. But they won't really hold any water when we get down to it. I'm not worried about this because it is what I said it is, a joke nothing more nothing less.

If it is a joke, it's probably not far off from becoming reality. America really isn't a free country anymore.

Dang, If they really do ban that game, then we are in a time that I don't like to think about. I agree with Snow, if this is true, we really are losing are freedoms.

And on a lighter note: Let's go protest by playing FF7 in front of the supreme court 24/7! XD

It can't be true, while I couldn't find FFVII at bestbuy.com I found FFVII Advent Children, said to be coming in september, and that's a form of FFVII in a way, they'd have taken it off if this were true
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 3534516323

And I found FFVII at walmart.com
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... _id=875810

I couldn't find FFVII at target.com, but I found it's strategy guide, and if it were to be gone, I'm sure the guide would be too!
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr ... 1566867142

therefore I think this is false, but if this junk ever gets to those people who hate games, they'd no doubt agree and make this nightmare come true!! which would be very bad.

The feds must really think that the majority of the population will imitate the stuff from video games. I remember that after 9/11 they changed the box art on C&C Red Alert 2 because it had the World Trade Center towers on fire.

I read it, and I can tell you it's fake. It has to be a joke, I mean... "Mario was unavailible for comment." and "Tifa's breasts were unavailible for comment." wouldn't make it onto any real news site at all. If you think about it, it's really just a whole load of crap.

Yeah, reading over it, this has got to be a joke. Although, "Tifa's breasts were unavailible for comment." was pretty funny. ^_^

Umm-- thats pretty silly of yall to even think that would be real--- you know they cant ban these games for one thing-- a large ammount of money from Sony goes into the US economy- also it would be like shutting down an industry-- which cant happen-- if the courts cant split up MicroSoft they arent going to touch Sony's profits :P

Sounds to me like somebody made it hoping it would catch on. Just imagine if 1 of those psycho soccer moms saw this, or worse, 1 of those bottom feeders we call politicians. Just think what would happen then. Every last damn one of them will jump on the bandwagon, and then gamers will get outraged, we'll gather to protest, somehow it will become a riot, and then the media will say that video games inspire violence and then the politians will have their way with banning video games. This is the worst case scenario that can happen people. We must take a stand and make our voices heard BEFORE this comes to pass.
