Im not sure if anyone has posted a topic on this before... I searched for it and it didn't turn anything up...

Anyways! Anyone else play the awesome strategic game of Go? I used to play it a heck of a lot, especially since I found places to play it for free online such as http://www.gokgs.com/ and I was getting pretty good at it.

Basically, for those who, for whatever reason, do not know of what I am talking about, Go is an ancient strategy "board" game. It is played on a square board with square grids on it, typically sized 19x19, but sometimes other sizes such as 9x9 and 13x13 are used. Each player takes turns placing pieces on the intersections of these grids, each trying to gain as much territory as possible.

I'm not going to do an all out tutorial here as I don't really have the time, but if you are interested in learning, pm me, and I'll see what I can do for ya, or you can go here.

So... Get posting replies! XD

I've heard the basics about go, but never learned it.

Might be fun to do so.

I'm not very good. Absolutely awful, really. XD

At lunch time my friends and I used to mess around a bit and race to see who could capture who first. They stopped playing with me because I won too much. Go takes too long to play and I haven't had the time to really sit down and try to play a game online even.

I have watched games on IGS because the go program I downloaded was from there. Every now and then I will use the program to play with a computer opponent, but even with a 9 stone handicap I lose. I have played games on the Yahoo! game servers as well, I lose there too.

I must say I love http://www.goproblems.com/ They are a lot of fun, but I can only do the ones for 15-18kyuu and down. Some I just don't get.

I saw a book on Go in the library yesterday from the "Mono to Ningen no Bunkashi" series, but I don't think it would be much use. The one I picked up for shogi (for a paper I have to write) doesn't seem to have much on strategy. Maybe if you want to play sometime during the summer we could try and play on a server. Maybe you could teach me more about the game. :D [/url]

I could try teaching you whenever we both have free time, I would love to teach actually, considering I need to get back to my 8-9kyu rating I used to have, because the last few I played were at like a 14-16kyu style, and I felt sooo noobish lol.

KGS is extremely good! The game of Go is also awesome... pretty much my favorite board game, though I am starting to suck again... >.<
