Hey, I'm wanting to run a D&D campaign, set in the Two Kinds world! I'm in the process of statting up the Keidren as a playable race? I've got the Basitin pretty well done, but I'm having some trouble with the Keidren. Here's a link to the post I made for this on a D&D site, we'll see what responses it gets as well. Two Kinds D&D

Needs a lot balance work.
Alright, first off, almost no race will ever have 2 +2 with only 1 -2. That itself either needs tweaking or it needs to be made an LA of 1, especially since charisma tends to be the dump stat of fighters, which this race is obviously geared towards.
Change the scent ability to the capability to get scent with a feat, ala orc and gnome.
Just plain take off the +2 on all saves. It just doesn't really work.
The rest is ok, I think.

Along with these, your going to need to include some penalty.
For example, Bastians have been known to suffer when cold and wet, so under rainy or snowy whether, they take a -1 penalty to Ac and attack rolls.
With that you might be able to pull off the 2 +2s.
And just cause it seems apt, add 1d3 claw attacks.

If you want, you could convert this to a LA +1, upgrade the claws to d4s, make them immune to poision and give them +4 on saves against dieses
and include scent.
That's probably also be balanced.

Remember to always take the race you made and look at the others races to see if it is balanced.

Pretty difficult to play TwoKinds w/ any of the main characters when most of their abilities are either unrevealed or undeveloped, :P

I pass.

The more I think about it, the more I come to believe that Keidran (and Basitins even moreso) should be applied as Monster Level templates. It gives people the ability to make the Keidran and Basitin characters as powerful as they keep being tempted to do, without unbalancing the game too far. D&D doesn't really offer all that much in flexibility for races (that sort of thing was sacrificed for simplicity), so it might just work out better to make them templates instead.

Templates would apply that you would make say an elf bastian.
I think you mean level adjustment.

Eh, more or less, yeah. You'll have to forgive me, it's been a while since I played 3/3.5, and I'm very unlikely to do it again anytime soon. Though in honesty, what would be considered like an Elf-Basitin is really what I'd considered -- Use a base race, so you know it's balanced already, and stack an adjusting template on top to reach your desired race. The same effect is reached directly by just writing a race with a level adjustment. I thought that applying a template to a base race would make for an easier time of it, since you'd have to play with balancing few things. Just say "all Keidran use Elves as their base race and apply the proper Keidran template," for instance. And after that point, you simply ignore the existence of a base race under the template. *shrug* This sort of inflexibility is a big part of why there's a deep seated, burning hatred for D&D in my soul.
