About 75 kids from my school protested gas prices riding bikes to school. they got a police escort and were on a local tv station and on like 3 local radio stations. Here in Porter/lake county Indiana. They plan on doing this every tuesday and thursday through the end of the school year if the weather permits.

I use my racing bike to get around town, and even I get gouged by the gas prices. I can't wait until solar power becomes as big as Big Oil is right now. Essentially free energy.

A police escort?
Ok, this really doesn't seem like a just enough cause to get a police escort.
Sure, something like lowering oil uses and therefore the cost of gas sure, but not wanting to pay too much for gas?

75 bikes on major roads is a bit of a big deal. :p

Fair enough, I expected more along the lines of suburban areas.
Also, did they all leave from the same place?

Firstly, when you're stretching every penny you have five times over, and barely meeting utilities, a hike in gas price IS a big deal. In fact, expect to see higher prices all around...how do you think any commodity gets where it's going?

I really don't know how we're going to get through this summer... :?

I paid $3.99/gallon yesterday...for crappy regular unleaded...and tourist season hasn't even begun!
x.x

So kudos to the kids on the bikes! I'd try it myself, but I'd have a heart attack if I biked the 10 miles to work...and I'd likely have to leave my place two hours early to boot...
XD

Damn cops. I was going to plow over you all in my stretch Hummer, too.

Hah, neat though. I ride my bike to wherever I can these days. It gets too expensive to fork out $4 a gallon, especially with a 45-minute commute to campus and back.

Gas prices aren't going down any time soon, though. Get used to the exercise, I say. A lot of the world's oil supply is slowly drying up and basic economics are coming into play. Less oil & more demand = inflated prices. I would wager we'll see $4.50 a gallon by next summer, but that's just a blind bet.

You know, unless your car calls for a higher grade of gas, spending that extra money is really just a waste.

Actually, the oil is there. New fields are being found, and the off shore rigs you can see from Dauphin Island show no signs of slacking production.

Somebody is greedy, pure and simple. What they're going to do with this stunt is put themselves out of business.

another popular current explanation is that there aren't enough refineries for what is being produced.

The problem isn't less supply, it's more demand.

Look at China. They are using a lot (And I mean A LOT!!!) of oil now, where before they didn't use as much.

They'll have to build more processing plants if they want to actually increase the supply.

I hate living where I do, most of the stuff is too far away to walk/ride a bike. I pretty much have to drive. Stupid bad layout... grumble grumble.
